Hard Head or what... Ok so I have had my smart little boy now for about two weeks. He is 10 months old and I know he knows that he is supposed to pee outside but check this out. So I crate him at night because I don’t quite trust him yet so the first thing I do in the morning is go for a nice walk. While we are out he will pee and he will poop but when we come back in I know he wants to go back out because he will stand by the door and bark but I have to start dressing for work and as soon as I turn my head he will pee! Now keep in mind he just went! The other day I went upstairs for a brief moment to change the laundry around. I left him downstairs and he has not mastered the stairs yet. I heard him bark at me for going up and sure enough when I came back there was a wet spot by the steps. He knew he was wrong because he took off running…what are your thoughts please

Thanks. The previous owners said he was potty trained and he will go to the door and bark when he needs to go out. I kind of think he is still trying to figure out his place in the order of the home. He is a funny and smart little guy.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I would suggest take a longer walk and encourage him every step of the way rewarding him with lots of praise every time he pees/poos. Than with a treat when you get back inside. Not outside or he may think that outside time means I get a treat and want to be out more than he is in. You cant really blame him thou, he did warn you !!

Could it be an "excitement pee"? I had a yorkie many years ago that would do that. He'd jump up on his hind legs & pee would sprinkle everywhere! Also, even if was trained with his previous owners, sometimes pups need additional training when entering a new environment. Keep up the good walks! He's lucky to have you.

Thank you everyone. I can see his improvement each day. I am glad this group is here because I will need a lot of help along the way. Riley is my first dog as an adult and there is lots to learn.
