Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Houdini Yorkie Background; Girl 'Crystal' born 1/11/13, we re-homed her June 18th this year, to a quiet retired couple home, with no other pets. Good natured little soul, who desperately wants to please. Today I had to attend a political meeting about 20 miles from home and this was the first time our little girl had ever been left alone. We have a 'Baby Dan' kiddies pen. Its octagonal, the sides are 30" high and at its maximum its 40" accross. The bars are 3" apart and made of metal. When I put her inside this morning in the kitchen, she cried. I felt a real heel submitting her to the confines of imprisonment, albeit with all her little creature comforts in attendance. However damage limitation was the first consideration, as those little gnashers are really sharp and there's a lot of em! I arrived home 4 hours later, having worried all the time I was away at this poor little soul, locked away on her own, would she start yelping or crying etc etc. You know what I'm going to say? I unlocked the door and there was this little soul, ears flushed flat, whole back end wagging and incredibly excited to see me, in the Hallway! Just how she got out of this pen still amazes me. She's about 6 and a half inches at the shoulder and weighs just over 6 pounds. To have jumped out with a very limited run up seems amazing. The equivalent of a 5' 7" woman clearing 28ft at a high jump event. Could she have 'squeezed' through the bars, or is she the reincarnation of a shaolin priest a' la David Carradine in 'Kung Fu', (no prison walls can hold him). It's so amusing and I felt really proud of her. Fortunately she doesn't seem to hold any grudges against me and I've of course given her lots of treats and fuss ever since! Oh and no chewing toileting or other miscreant acts had been undertaken - a sort of 'is that the best you've got' result for her really! Amazing little creature... | You have a climber like my Adie. There wasn't a playpen or gate that could hold her. We had to have lids or tops on anything we used. LOL. |

| I have a climber too! Or a vault jumper! When we first got Enzo we bought a 3 1/2 ft pen. I put him in it with all his favourite things...by the time I walked up 7 stairs and jumped into bed... He was by my feet, wagging his tail! He sleeps with us now and the next morning we took that jail back and bought a large crate with a ROOF!

| Aww, cute story! She was all like "Challenge Accepted". Henri is a Houdini pup too, but with him its harnesses. I have tried over 5 different types of harnesses but somehow he manages to get out of all of them, even when they are as tight as they will go (without hurting him).

| Those tiny things are amazing. I have never had a small dog before, but now will only have a Yorkie. My heart has overgrown since I got mine. |

| LOL Great story! In my house we call that winning the "Baxter Burgundy Award". Anytime your dog does something they aren't supposed to by amazing means that your aren't even mad just impressed. Its named after the dog in the movie "Anchorman" with Will Ferrell. "Whats that Baxter? You ate a whole wheel of cheese and pooped in the fridge? I'm not even mad, I'm amazed" -Ron Burgundy Congrats on your puppy winning a Baxter Burgundy Award for the day! |

| My 5 1/2 pound(at the time) Tibbe squeezed himself through the approx. 3" opening between one of our back gates and the gate post as I had run to answer the phone or run to the restroom or some situation like that!!! He's rather sturdy for his size and there is no way I'd have thought he could get out of the back yard but I learned the hard way that a very small dog like a Yorkie is never really secure in some confinements.

| Depending on the width of your yorkie, I think she squeezed through. |

| You are so right. I walked the entire perimeter of my yard twice and there is no other way in the world he could get out. I know he didn't climb that Cox fence - he's just not strong enough to hold his sturdy body onto Cox fence and make it up AND OVER the top. And then of course I stood on the other side of the fence and lured him through that 3" opening and out he came. Took a little squeezing but it didn't really take him that long to zip right through. He just mashed himself through it. Amazed me! I would have bet money he couldn't have gotten through that space. Now that's been fixed and he can't do that again and I watch him when he's out now that I know what an escape artist he is.

| I once saw my yorkie Minnie make a 30 inch jump onto my bed from a standstill on the ground. I was floored, but picked her up and set her down since I was worried about her hurting herself on the jump down.

| PP, great idea to coax him. Now you know. I think once the shoulders can fit, everything can fit and pass on through. OP, try the same thing PP did. Try one of those pet gates. Playpen perhaps? |

When we picked her up from the elderly lady who'd had her as a present from her grand children, she advised us she was a 'right handful'. So far the first month has been really funny. She's definitely hyper, but wonderful with it. I was worried I wouldn't bond with her? (Jilly remember), well you were dead right we're a complete unit now. I think it was the walks together (and the treats of course) that finally clicked. I can't remember specifically when, but one day a sort of 'Karma' came over us and we're almost inseparable now! | |
