| pet gates I have to get a pet gate for my livingroom, and I was wondering what everyone has. I have hardwood floors, and am wondering if the freestanding ones could be moved aside by the dogs. Also, do the ones that don't need hardware to attach to the walls stay in place? The doorway is wider than a normal doorway. Thanks guys. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've used free standing wood ones in the past and have found them very sturdy.

| I have this one: North States Clear Choice Gate It's only been used with carpet and tile though, but it works and also worked with my Pomeranian who was about 16" tall and 13lbs and I've had it since 2008. Sometimes I swear it sounds like Draco is charging at it. It's pretty sturdy and once it's in place does a good job of staying there. It's a snap to take down and put away when not needed.

| thank you. I need to be able to either step over it, or open a gate to get through to the front door. With the free standing ones, what is keeping them from slipping on the floor... for some reason I can't picture why they wouldn't slip on the wood floors?? |

| You can buy furniture grippers at a place like lowes for the bottom of which ever gate fits your home if they don't come with it. I never had a problem with the gate sliding around when it was on tile, the pressure from the sides always worked well enough. But in your case I guess I probably would look for a gate that had them, just in case of damage that could be done to wood floors.

| I was lucky enough to get 2 sets of wooden 36" high 4 hinged accordian panel gates. We put a hook and eye on the end of the gates and use them as a freestanding barricade. It is simple to walk thru and forms quite a large "foyer". They are so well balanced they never fall over or slide around. With 5 people in and out we have prevented many escapes and also stopped the dogs from "attacking" the door when the bell rings unexpectedly. |

| Ritapatt that is an excellent idea. My doorway is 72" so I don't need a lot of length, but more than the average everyday gate. |

| I have a free standing one and so does my parents. The golden retriever can move it accidentally but not the yorkies.

| I have found baby gates to be cheaper then ones meant for dogs we have one of every kind almost lol. For the stairs we have one the pressure mounts and has a door in it, then we have the pressure mounted one with no gate which is a pain sometimes then we have a free standing one and that might be my favorite because it folds up pretty small and is so easy to move. Callie had never touched it to move it and when Sammy comes over he never touches it either and we have it on tile.

| BJH, I never thought about the little guys going through the gate....lol. My frenchies would be fine, but Ace may be able to go through. The frenchies are desperate to get to the front door when anyone comes and will jump at whatever I have blocked the doorway with. I love the look of the freestanding gates, but not sure if they would move. I guess I could return it if it won't hold them. Thank you all. |

| We have two baby gates by Regalo. We had to a clear, plastic banister guard because ours can get through. Pam |

| We just bought this one over the weekend. Evenflo - Top of the Stairs Extra-Tall Gate - Walmart.com It's very convenient and no more climbing over the gate for us I should also add that this is in the entry way from the living room to the bedrooms.

| i ordered a free standing wooden gate from groupon and it was horrible. i refused to use it because i was afraid the dog or the cat would knock it over and get hurt.
