| Nina doesn't eat well! My Yorkie is 4 months old and weighs 1 lb and 9oz. When we got her, we had no idea she was so small. She was 12 weeks and when we took her to the vet the next day, he said she was in good health. When he weighed her, she was 1 lb 3 oz. and he was as surprised as we were. We have been trying to put more weight on her and she has been gaining 1 ounce every week. The problem is that she has had a few episodes of hypoglycemia and we are very worried when she doesn't eat. One day she eats all her food or most of it and the next few days she refuses to eat. She nibbles or eats a small amount. We feed her every 5 hours hoping that she will be ok because of the multiple feedings. She will not eat hard food, which we are ok with that, but I have tried many combinations of wet food to entice her including sparkling Parmesan cheese. Sometimes she eats it and likes it but other times she doesn't show too much interest. She doesn't like any treats either. Food is not interesting or something highly desired. We contacted a dog nutritionist to see how she can help with this issue. Will update as she will consult wi us tomorrow. If anyone has any thoughts about this, I will appreciate it. It would be so nice to see her eat all her food! I feed her usually 4 spoons of canned food. (Wellness Just for Puppy and baby food to entice her, cut carrots, boiled chicken) I also give her Nutra Drops 3 times a day to prevent the low blood sugar and to open her appetite. Today, she didn't want to eat the carrots which she likes most of the time. She is impredictable! |

| It really sounds like you are doing all of the right things for her. I would definitely be interested to know what the nutritionist says. I have learned from this forum that some pups are super picky and people go thru food after food until hitting on the one the pup likes. Yes, it's kind of throwing money around to buy a food and discover it isn't working, but maybe you can ask a store or even the companies that make the foods for samples. I have heard some will do this. Have you tried Fromm or Canine Caviar? There is another one that is popular (well, Mandie loves Blue Buffalo..have you tried that?)..that isn't the one I'm thinking of though. I think it starts with an O. Check out the Diet and Health section and search foods. It's a hot topic around here as we all have our own beliefs on what is best. But for your baby...what is best is what she will eat Praying the Nutritionist can help. Please do keep us posted.

| I have a VERY picky eater here too. Same things went on, she'd eat like a champ 1 day, then the next few days I'd have to make her eat. I always worried about low blood sugar, and had to watch and make sure she ate. It took some time to find foods she'll eat, and I switch them around a lot. I have dry out all the time, and when I feed her, I use a dry kibble base with wet food on top. When she gets tired of her wet food after a few days- I freeze what's left and use it in the next rotation. So far switching foods up is working. Mandiesmom suggested getting samples. I used samples until I found foods she liked. There's a list in the Health and Diet section of companies you can email for free samples. Pieces of boiled chicken breast also helped get her to her dish to eat. AND the dishes...My goodness! I tried 7 or 8 different dishes before she decided the blue lid off the food storage bowl was what she wanted to eat off of!!! (She now has a proper stoneware dish- but she really didn't like bowls AT ALL! and she hated certain colors!) I'd love to hear what your nutritionist says. Please keep us posted!

| Kyra is a picky eater and also small. We boil chicken and grind it up and sprinkle her kibble with it. She gobbles it right up then.

| One of mine started out as a picky eater, but the one thing that got her going was finely diced chicken on her kibble, and I used the broth the chicken was boiled in to soften her kibble. Many people recommend sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on their food to make it more appetizing, or mixing in a little cottage cheese.
