| Yorkie coat texture Never noticed until know the different coats. I always assumed yorkies hair was straight. It's only after speaking to a breeder in her description she mentioned something like thick, and when looking at the puppy all over again, I noticed the thickness. I was looking at Maltese dogs, and they too have different coats. I prefer the straighter, coats, and was taught to look at the parents, of course, and secondly you can usually see their hair part in the middle down their back. Describe your yorkies fur, and tell me if you have matting problems. I know all types will matt if its not come, just curious. |

| Cotton coat and combination coat Yorkies tend to mat easier than the silk coats.

| Rufus is my yorkie and he has a curly silky coat. His coat doesn't matt at all! I love it Nena is my morkie and she has more of the maltese coat, she is very cottony but so soft. She does matt very often.

| I have two yorkie / maltese. One of my boys is silky and matts only a little, my other boy has super soft maltese cotton coat and matts easily needs to be groomed twice a day when his fur is long. |

| Also puppy hair is different then what there adult hair will be like it mats VERY easy. I keep Callie in a puppy cut because she just does not have the personality to have pretty long flowing hair she enjoys the elements to much for that I could just imagine everything I would have to pick out of her hair. She also gets cold very easy so she has to wear clothes almost all the time. Her hair though even when on the long side of a puppy cut never tangles and is very soft and crazy thick and I love it and hope to one day grow it out. My moms rescue yorkie has a much more cottony coat that we also keep in a puppy cute because it tangles like crazy and when he was rescued before we got him he had long very mated hair and I guess someone had tried to comb it and brush it because now if you go to comb him and hit a tiny tangle he jumps and try's to hide.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I have both smooth coat and a cotton coat. The cotton coat is much worse to manage than the smooth coat but I prefer it over the other because of the thickness of it and how it looks when grown out.

| Henri has the straight silky hair and rarely mats, he only gets mats on his face because he likes to stick his snout into everything! He is my nosey little boy!

| So for the most part, you can't really tell the hair texture of a twelve week old? |

| You can get a fairly good idea at 12 weeks. Your breeder should def know what kind of coat his/her puppy will have at 12 weeks.

You should be able to have a pretty good idea by now. I was able to tell with my last litter of pups and so far I was right with each of them.
