| Canine alleergies, hotspots, pet surveillance , and scratching. I've been recently researching different dogs foods. A member on here has the same problems with her dog, Peanut, I have no idea what her name is I can only remember her dogs name lol. I have decided on Canine Caviar Open Sky. For as long as I've had her she licks her paws quiet often, I just thought that it was normal and okay for her to lick them. Recently I've noticed that she has two places on her that she bites and scratches often. The two placs are on her rump, and on her shoulder. I looked all over her and didn't see any fleas that could be the culprit. What flea medicine is good to use? Frontline Plus is is there something better? I just want Priscilla to stop licking, scathing, and bites excessively. I can tell its making her skin sensitive. She has has some blue coloring around the top of her ears. Is this normal? I am also going to buy a security camera that is wireless and can be used all over the world so I can watch her during the day when I'm away. Does anyone else do this? |

| Lol My name is Deanna! Her biting at her rump is concerning because it could be her anal glands… has she ever had them expressed? If not it would be wise to take her in and have them expressed, that could be the reason why she is biting back there. We use K9 Advantix, always have, never had a flea or tick on him. There really is no “best” product. It is going to be based on how Priscilla does with it. You may want to take her into the Vet and have her checked out- Do I think she is having allergies from the past food you have given her..? Yes but there could also be something else. Plus they can give you meds to make her feel more comfortable. Before Peanut was better, he was worse- if that makes sense. I had to medicate him daily even when I first started him on CC. It took about a month for me to stop the meds, and then about 4/5 months to see a real improvement. Can you take a picture of the blue coloring on her ear? I think you and her could really benefit from a vet visit…

| Advantax is a good flea preventative but you dont want to use it if you have cats in your house. The main ingredient in it is very toxic to cats. I do have cats so I use advantage

| You can use Advantix with cats in your household, if the cats/ dogs have close physical contact I would make sure to separate them for a day until the Advantix dries out. Also make sure you throw the applicator away in the trash.

| even if you don't see fleas you should keep them on a preventative- a flea can jump on them, bite them and jump off and leave them itching for days! I recently switched my allergic boy to Canine Caviar too. So far we are still in the transition period but all seems well. If you don't already I also recommend wiping down the paws with baby wipes after coming in from outside- this has helped my licky paw yorkie a lot.

| I just had them expressed 30 minutes ago. Priscilla did whine just a little when it was first being done but she only did it because she hates having her back to someone. |

| There are multiple things that can cause dog's to have allergic type reactions. Food many times can be a big part of it. Your food choice sounds pretty good but without knowing for sure what she is allergic to it is hard to say. I believe the food you picked is grain free so that would eliminate corn which is a good start. Fleas are pretty common this time of year and many times you can miss them because when they get down to the skin level they are hard to see. I always run a flea comb through the coat of my animals after they have been outside. It is the only sure way to make sure noting has jumped on them. Look for red spots on the skin and specks of black dirt like substance on the skin. Those are tell tail signs of fleas. I have seen people say Advantage II and also Frontline work well to eliminate fleas. I would encourage you not to use any of the cheaper brands as many of them have caused severe health problems in pets and are not effective against fleas anyway. I'm going with a more natural approach this year. It is experimental for us so I'm not passing it on until we see how it goes. I hope you can get your little girl to stop chewing on herself soon. |

| As far as flea and tick topical medication (I used to work at Hartz) all of them are the basically the same. Some animals are more delicate/sensitive than others so if you plan on using any flea and tick product be sure to follow the direction and ALWAYS use the appropriate dosage according to the dogs weight. You don't know how many times I would receive a call from someone using product for dogs that weigh 50lbs on a 5lb dog and complain the dog was having a negative reaction. Use only on dogs or puppies 12 weeks or older and do not use if they are less than 5 lbs. If you ever notice a reaction to any topical flea and tick treatment quickly wash with warm water and dish soap (dawn). These products are usually oil based and the dish soap will really help remove it. Using it according to direction doesn't guarantee your pet will not have an adverse reaction, like I said some animals are more sensitive than others. I personally try to refrain from using flea and tick products but little Abu got fleas last year and I had to do it and he was fine (he did look greasy though- poor thing) I miss him

| I didn't I ordered it from dog.com but they have a thing where if you want to sign up for automatic refills they give you discounts (I might sign up for this once I figure out how long it lasts). The price wasn't that bad considering this bag will probably last us 3 months or so, heck maybe next time I'll get a bag and we could split it

I would like to point out that when I did work for them, the majority of complaints I received were due to misuse of the product. Unfortunately most people did not read/follow the directions as outlined on the packaging. Is there a safer product that you can recommend?
