| 14 weeks is still pretty young for a Yorkie pup. It will take time. Shoot, Mandie is over a year old and she is still not 100% trustworthy. Some get it quicker..I find around here, the majority take a year to 2 years to completely be trustworthy. But back to the age thing - remember, this pup has a little bladder so it will need to go more often right now. First and foremost, make sure the puppy can get to where it needs to go potty at least every 2 hours (YES, even at night!). With that, pick up some books and research on crate training. Also, from reading here, it seems the best way to potty train them is to keep them in an xpen with space for bed, food, water, toys, and pee pad. When the proper spot is used to potty, praise praise praise! Never yell when an accident happens. A stern no and immediate placement where is ok is all that is needed. Never discipline or get onto the pup after the fact if the act wasn't seen. The pup won't know what you (or your aunt is talking about). Good luck and assure your aunt the pup is young and it will take time and patience. They truly (as a rule..not always) do take longer to housebreak so patience and consistency are so important.

Im not very familiar with the pad training, my pups were all cage and paper trained. But I do have some proven techniques on my site if you would like to read them and possibly find something that would work for your aunt and her new addition. (link is below)

| It's tough, but with time they do catch on. They are pretty smart. He's still a baby, probably still getting to know your aunt. He'll understand once he gets to know her. That's how it went with me and Charlie. Seems like once he got to know me, things like potty training became a lot easier. |

| it's not like my aunt don't want to do the work. when we try to tell her what worked for us that's when she said that I have tried that or other things like that. but sometime u have to keep up with it to see if it really going to work or not. that's what we did with mine. at time I just don't think that she can wait that it take to get her to use the potty pads. I don't think she want her to go outside since they got dogs running around and lot of them she don't know who there owner is. |

| I think she know who her mom is. she will fall her around the house. she don't like my step uncle to much and she kind of starting to warm up to him some. my fancy was kind of like that around my dad but now she go crazy when she see him or any man for that matter. but my aunt little one might not be use to the house and everything yet she been there a week so far. I know she got to keep up with it. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Maybe one of those pet apartment things or a litter pan with puppy pads in it would work in this situation. A dogs strongest sense is their nose so if your aunts pup was able to smell their own scent they would know where they need to go potty. So if they are peeing on the floor and it is not cleaned up properly they wil continue to go in that area. Tip: Dog like to wonder when they go potty. This is kind of goose but it works. I do this when I paper not pad train my litters of puppies. Place several pads down all touching. Than take a piece of the poo and place it on the pads. Just leave it there allowing the pup to sniff it and remember that location of the feel of the pad under its paws. Its not the easies thing to leave it set but it will encourage the pup to return to that same spot. I would suggest doing this for several weeks until the pups gets it.

| I don't know if she would so something like that. at time I think her little one smell the old cat that they had to put down last year sometime. so that might make it even harder to get her to do what she wants. and too she think that the person that had her before she got it didn't do anything with her. just left her and her brother in the same room all the time. |

"It is never to late to train an old dog new tricks" Well dogs are more than willing to please us and with the right kind of encouragement even a dog who is untrained will do what is asked of them as long as there is tons of praise and consistency in the training. You could suggest cage training or leash/tethering to your aunt. Both can be found on my site. Good Luck !!!
