YT 2000 Club Member | Breaking Coat question..... When yorkies "break coat" does it change a little at a time and in what area? I know the head color begins to change pretty early. I have noticed this on Tatiana when I brought her home at 12 weeks. Teeka is 11 months and black as the day I brought her home. Tatiana is 6 months, tomorrow. In the last 2 weeks, I have noticed on her back by her shoulder, it is turning a slate gray. It is just on her shoulder area that is turning. Is this how they break coat? I thought I would see the change at the roots first. I have never had a yorkie that has changed her coat color.....Tameka stayed black all her life and Teeka is very black. So Tatiana color change has me curious and excited!

| My boy is 16 weeks, his had is mostly blonde now with black at the tips. His coat down his back looks like he is going bald because his roots are all grey about 1/2 inch now. I will try to take a picture |

YT 2000 Club Member | This is the way I thought they change to their adult color, but Tatiana is just at the shoulder and not at the roots. It is really hard to see, but is definitely a dark gray or almost a blue gray

YT 2000 Club Member | I think it is a blue gray color as it is really dark. Her breeder said she would be "Blue" so that means she will have a very dark color over her back. I love that possibility! I love the really dark yorkies.....I wonder what her head color will be...it is a mix of black & tan. Teeka is black on her back with no color change and a mix of gray & light tan on her face & head.

| This is funny because not too long ago I noticed my pups head. It looked like he had a big bald spot. So I picked him up and looked at the top of his head and the roots are turning gray. I'm excited for him to turn gray. I love that look on yorkies. |

YT 500 Club Member | My first yorkie stayed black on his back his whole life. Fritz lightened up starting at about 1 yr. and really lightened up from his 3rd birthday till now. He will be 4 in August. Actually friends that haven't seen him since last summer can't even believe he is the same dog. His backis super silver (I love it).
