YT 500 Club Member | Preparing for Spaying We are gearing up here to have Sophie spayed. Waiting on her canines to come in a little the rest of the way. 9 baby teeth will need to come out. When I got her she weighed 8 oz. and the vet said he wanted to wait until she was full grown. We weren't sure she would even reach 2 lbs. She is almost 7 months now and weighs a whopping 3 lbs. (so relieved). Anyway, since she had a couple of major growth spurts he wants to go ahead and do the surgery. Sorry, I'm rambling. I requested an IV for her. Is there anything else I need to request?

| Is she coming home same day or staying overnight? If overnight will someone be at the vets office? Pain medication- I always get the injection for mine and take a RX for the next day to fill if I need it. Buddy my Golden is the only one who ever needed the RX but he is super sensitive weenie-man. External sutures, derma bond (skin glue), or self desolving sutures? Will they have a heart monitor and pulse ox. to watch heart beat and monitor oxygen level? She might want to eat the first day or so she comes home. Go slow with the water at first. Since she will have gotten IV fluids she will be hydrated. Mine could never tolerate the satellite collar but were perfectly happy in baby onsies. The extra small preemie ones fit 3.5 pound Roxy the best. Onesie picture in her back and crotch used to stubbie to stick out. For Zoey is needed to put a diaper underneath because she was licking and I was afraid she would desolve the skin glue prematurely!

YT 500 Club Member | Thanks for the information! The vet said he would use an IV cath. And manually keep he hydrated. He said these little one can get over hydrated easily. Have you ever heard of that?

| Mine always get IVF and Roxy a dose of SQ fluids just encase. She did pee frequently and a large amount for a few days afterwards. They can get over hydrated but it their organs are functioning properly they pee it out! My vets discharge instruction said 10-14 days leash only walking, no jumping, or rough play. Since my Roxy is a wild woman the vet wanted her to rest for 2 weeks but she had other ideas. She escaped her pen less than 12 hours after getting home. Picked her up at 3pm and by midnight she had jumped out of her pen (3.5 foot high side and a almost 4 foot fall) and jumped on to my bed (3 foot high jump) to sleep with everyone else. She did much better than me with the whole thing. Roxy had no retained puppy teeth, Zoey had 4, and Cozy had 1. Cozy has never missed a meal. Roxy ate fresh ground chicken and baby rice. Zoey just wanted to sleep and she ate in the morning.

YT 500 Club Member | Sophie is my first female dog since I was a teenager at home. So, I don't really remember what to expect, that was so long ago. I've gone through the neutering process with my males (very uninformed) which may have made it easier on me. I've always used really good vets, not going for the bargain basement vets out there. I just did what the vet told me to do. After being on YT for a while I feel I am more informed and that kind of makes me a bit overly cautious and moe nervous. Plus, she's my sweet snuggly baby girl.

| Aren't they all? Roxy needs to get her teeth cleaned and I am more terrified of that they when she was spayed! Spaying her was for her health! I can't get myself to believe that for her teeth.

| I have never had to ask for it before because all of the places Callie has had to have surgery's (orthopedic specialist, vet dentist and regular vet) they have all done the blood work but I bet some forget or just don't do it.
