| Rescue Yorkie adoption This week we are adopting a 7-year-old 4-1/2-pound Yorkie girl who was recently liberated from a puppy mill where she had been used as a breeder dog. Horrifying! (There must be a special circle in Hell for puppy mill owners!) Does anyone have any advice for training, socialization, etc. in these unique circumstances? We want more than anything to have the rest of her life make up for the dreadful first seven years. |

| Aww First of all Welcome to YT!! Glad to have ya. That is so awesome of you, Congrats on adopting!! Is this your first dog? I know Puppy Mill pups are different, from what they have been through it’s hard to say how they will act when she is home. I would maybe just take it day by day, just to see how she is going to be- Are you going to have pads out? Take her outside to potty? When are you getting her? I know a lot of member's have exp in puppy mill pups so hopefully they can help you more- Looking forward to hearing more about her and seeing pics!!

| thank you for saving this baby. i think you need to just see how she acts when she arrives at your home and then work on it from there. lola didnt trust anyone...it took a year for her to allow me to give her a belly rub. she actually plays a lil now and is so much more trusting of us and her surroundings but it took close to a full year for that transition to happen. she still have issues but we work on them with consistency and lots of love and positive praise.

| Congratulations on adopting your new dog. I'm sure you will give her a wonderful home with lots of love! The best thing I can suggest for training is to be very gentle but firm, consistent, and persistent with your training. It may take her awhile to adjust. Good luck!

I have had 4 that I adopted that came from a puppymill and were kept in cages all the time, before they ended up with a rescue group. I will just say they are the most the awesome babies. At times it may be difficult and sad depending on the exact environment came from. Just be patient and go slow, and let them learn at their own pace. Bless you for adopting a Rescue.
