| Taking pills Scooter's sis, Bitsy, is supposed to take glucosamine every morning on an empty stomach. Fine except they are capsules and capsule or pill I simply cannot get either down her....no way. The vet suggested breaking open the capsule and putting in on a little yogurt. Nope, she's having none of that. She should work for the TSA because her nose can detect a drug a mile away. The only way she'll take it is if it's disguised in super smelly stuff like liver sausage. I don't want to give her liver sausage every morning for the rest of her life but it's the only thing that outsmells her pills. Any advice please Oh and I've tried to put it in a pill syringe but she just stops swallowing and the capsule wouldn't work in the pill syringe.

| One of mine has a horrible time with pills and caps. So this is what my Vet recommended and my Luci loves them, she thinks she is getting a treat. Now I know it can start to get pricey, but it works for her. Pet Naturals Hip + Joint Soft Chews - Dog Vitamins from petco.com

| I wrap pills in fat free cream cheese works like a charm.

| I use a pill shooter. Because there was absolutely no other way Callie was going to take tramdol after her knee surgery. But if you use one it needs to be one with a rubber tip so it doesn't hurt there throat. It just drops the pill down there throat.

| I meant pill shooter not syringe. Think I can use it on capsules? I've tried it with pills and like I say she stops swallowing. Cream cheese, no she won't touch it. She is definitely a pain when it comes to taking medicines.

| We recently lost our min pin mix due to heart failure. In the months leading up to this, he was on a lot of meds, and I fought with a way to get him to take them. I found the best way with him was to use a bit of canned dog food smeared on a piece of flour tortillia then wrap the pill up in it. I know, odd choice, but nothing else had worked. This worked like a charm for us....just another option to try.

| Wow canned dog food smeared on a tortilla. Sounds weird enough for her to like. I"ll give it a try.

| I think the tortillia and dog food worked because since I took this stuff out of the refrigerator he thought it was "human food" and he was getting a treat. I would smear the dog food on like a spread, then put it in the microwave for just a few seconds to knock the chill off.

| My poodle took a lot of pills during her lifetime, she had epilepsy and CHF. I usually put her pills in cheese, meat, or wet dog food. Towards the end I used PB cookies. Lickable stuff didn't work (PB, cream cheese, etc) because she'd lick it off the pill. She was a pro at eating around the pills, spitting them out, cheeking them to spit out in other rooms, and refusing the food because she smelled the pill. A few times she spit the pill out and hid it with her paw. |

| Our dogs give us a real hard time. When Oliver had his cataract surgery he had to take pills three times a day and it was a nightmare. We started crushing the pills and giving it to him with Vanilla Ice Cream or applesause. |

Brandi did the same thing. I used to find pills all over the place. I will say this though, Brandi never just spit them out, I would hide the pill in some food, then let her lick it out of my hand and she would gently place the pill back in my hand. It was the cutest thing. Now the only way I can get her to take her pill is to smear just a dab peanut butter. I have tried several of the suggestions on listed here and absolutely nothing works except peanut butter. | |
