Bordetella Vaccination for Dogs: Fraud and Fallacy | Dogs Naturally Magazine Also, any vet recommending yearly DHPP or rabies is just in it for money or completely ignorant to recent data. I would never let a vet touch my dog who would let me get yearly vaccinations. Jackson has had bordatella three times, I've let vets talk me into it, and every time he has gotten sick afterward. He's also had kennel cough after getting the vaccine. I do think it's one of those things that you have to decide based upon your lifestyle, etc. But honestly KC is pretty easy to treat if caught early and the vaccine doesn't protect all strains anyway. I don't think it's one of the more 'dangerous' vaccines, but I definitely don't think it's necessary.

| Well when you live in New York you get used to paying higher everything. I brought my two dogs into the vet last Saturday because I wasn't sure if they had an URI or allergies. Well as much as I love my vet it ended up costing $245 and she really did nothing except give them Clava Mox, a cough medication and something for their runny nose. She didn't even take their temperature. Just listened to their heart and that was it. |

| I guess living where I do has its advantages. I feel like my vet is reasonable. Lol. I think you have to keep location in mind while figuring if pricing is fair.

| sounds standard, I have my dogs annual check up coming and I expect the cost to be the same for both. have you thought about titer testing instead of getting DAAP and Bordatella. from all the vaccination protocol I've read these truly shouldn't be required after the 2nd annual unless their immune system shows the need for it or unless you are boarding them. Titers still cost money though, so it won't help with your costs, but it may prevent over vaccination, especially in older dogs |

| Annual fees including shots, bloodwork and the optional KC is $160 per dog at my vet. I have had as many as 6 dogs at a time and I simply spead it out to one every other month,so as not to get smacked by the bill. We do KC because I can not imagine having 5 or 6 dogs in my house, all doing antibiotic (sometimes it takes several rounds per dog),plus cough meds. The cost would be pretty bad as well as my sanity gone from caring for that many ill at once. So your question being was the cost $600 to high. I would of choked and my vet will atleast let me pay it out when I have a sudden large bill. I do purchase my meds from the vet,yes I know that there is a markup. But this is part of what keeps his small business going. If this was a large clinic with several vets then I would purchase online. |

I do not trust these vets now...esp after I just found out that the vet has been giving my 2 yorkies Bordatella for the past 3 to 4 yrs against my wishes and billing me for it. I told him I didn't want to pay for this year and he just about ignored me bay saying that giving them these shots is not a bad thing...where does he get the nerve. once I am on the road to getting this Lyme stuff under control I am thing about send the Vet a letter regarding the fact that I will be taking him to court for his actions (see how he likes that). I am really upset with him. Tina
