| Suggestions Needed ASAP!!!! PLEASE HELP!!! Hello, I'm a stay at home mom with three kids (6/5/4yrs old) and recently a proud owner of an 11 week yorkie. He is my first small dog that Ive ever owned. I've owned two bigger dogs who passed away months ago. So I decided to try a small dog. I need help/ suggestions on what to do with my yorkie next week. I live in Dallas, TX and I have family who live in San Antonio, TX. I'll be traveling down to San Antonio with my three kids for Vacation Bible School next week. I was thinking about leaving my yorkie home with my husband. He works from 7am- 7pm. So my yorkie will be left alone all day. My husband doesnt have lunch breaks so he wont be able to make it home to let our yorkie out. I've also thought of dropping my children off at my parents house and they take them to VBS and I come back home. However this is my 4yr olds first time to VBS and I feel like he needs me there with him. He's never been alone without the other two siblings. So this is something totally new for him!!! So the questions are will our yorkie be okay left alone all day until my husband gets home? Or should I travel with our yorkie? My parents did say that if I need to bring our dog its okay, but they rather me not since they have 3 huge adult lab dogs at there home. Ive tried leaving him in our laundry room for a couple of hours, but he just cries really loud and its breaking my heart. I do own three male cats. One of them is actually best buds with our yorkie. They love to chase each other in our backyard. I thought of leaving them together in our laundry room, but I was afraid of the cat eating all the dog food and the puppy getting into the litter box. I dont know what to do!!!! Please help with suggestions! Ive been stressing this out all week!!!!! |

| Personally, unless there is something about the lab's personalities that would have you worried, and there would be no way to keep them separated if needed, I would lean toward taking your yorkie with you. Labs are big but typically gentle, I think if they are introduced slowly and controlled they would be fine. My odds are your yorkie would rule the pack by weeks end. As for leaving him at home 11 weeks is still sort of young to be left alone that long. Bentley will be 7 months this month and will be next week that he will be alone all day for a couple of days. I keep him in doggie daycare at my parents while I'm at work.

| My goodness you do have your hands full with 3 little kids and a puppy! I would think that at 11 weeks, it is too long to leave your puppy alone for that long. I would suggest that you plan on taking him with you. You probably don't want your puppy roaming your parents house with very large dogs but if you bring your pup's pen and gear (yes it's like packing for another child and hopefully his crate area has a cover so the bigger dogs can't get to him while you're gone) he should be safe when you aren't there. I've traveled with our yorkie puppy and it is a big deal to pack all that stuff that puppies need but you will have more peace of mind with him with you than him being alone for so long and sad. Good luck, I hope you have a very safe trip and a wonderful time visiting your parents!! Blessings!!

I agree with Lynzy, I would board him. I also board my Sophie Kate, have since she was 4 months old. She only boards at my Vet who is fully staffed 24/7. Sophie Kate stays in the cat area because she is not fond of big dogs. I know a lot of people do not believe in boarding but in my case they are the only people I trust with Sophie Kate.

| A young puppy can have hypoglycemic episodes and should not be left alone for many hours because if his blood sugar drops no one will be around to get it back up which will result in seizures which can then result in death. I would take him with you but I would also take a play pen to keep the puppy in because no matter how good the dog is a big dog and small dog should never be left alone together unsupervised. I love labs to death but they can be loyal to a fault I have known two who would attack any animal and kill it when it came on there property even though they where very friendly loving dogs.

| I would take him with you and leave him at your parents. I would take a crate or Xpen so he can stay safe and sound. He needs food, water, bed, toys, pee pads all of the needs of a puppy left with him. 7-7 is a long time, however when Peanut was a puppy he was left from 7am- about 6/7pm ish. He did fine alone, I left him all the essentials and no harm was done.

| Thank you all for the help! I really appreciate it!! I thought about boarding him, but he still needs to finish his shots first. And no offense towards my husband, but I know when he gets home he'll just let him run around the house and use the potty wherever. Ive been working so hard on potty training and leaving him home alone will just mess it up. And my hubby will just mess it up too...There's nothing wrong with the big dogs. Its just that there so big they can just run him over quickly. Ive been working on leash training him with a harness, but the harness is to big still lol. So I use his collar with a leash and he seems to enjoy it. So I can probably just keep him on his leash while Im at my parents house. Again, thanks for all the advice! I just needed to make sure I was making the right decision by taking him with me. I try and discuss this with my hubby but he ends up ignoring me. |

| I think my greatest concern with respect to not having all of the shots is parvo, but since that is transmitted by contact with fecal matter, so long as the Yorkie is kept away from other dogs while being boarded, I don't think that would be a problem. The dog should have been vaccinated against bordetella at an earlier age, right, and so should be okay in that regard? I would board the dog at the vet... |

How Is Parvovirus Transmitted? Parvovirus is extremely contagious and can be transmitted by any person, animal or object that comes in contact with an infected dog's feces. Highly resistant, the virus can live in the environment for months, and may survive on inanimate objects such as food bowls, shoes, clothes, carpet and floors. It is common for an unvaccinated dog to contract parvovirus from the streets, especially in urban areas where there are many dog It can also leave on cement for 15 plus years.

| Other options would be to have a petsitter come and let the dog out during the day, or have your husband take the dog to doggie daycare. I personally would prefer the petsitter since he is so young. We have used petsitters before. They charged us $19 per trip for our 4 dogs. They figured 1/2 hr per trip. It would probably cost even less for just one puppy. You could have them come once a day or even twice a day and it wouldn't cost you a fortune.

| I think I'll take him and all his stuff with me to my parents. Ive been feeling like it was the best choice to take him with me. But I needed reassurance that I was making the right choice. He cheated death once so I dont want to leave him alone. I thought of a petsitter, but I havent found one that I trust enough. Thank you all for the help and replies!!! It all is greatly appreciated |

| No I didnt post it, but I received my yorkie (Zeus) from my inlaws. He had 10 siblings. He and another male where the only survivors. I dont know all the details, but my MIL took Zeus and his brother and bottle fed them for awhile. We just adopted Zeus around May 23. He was 8 weeks old then. |
