| With the days getting warmer and summer fast approaching, we can all keep our ears and eyes open to dogs being left in a hot car whenever we are in any parking lot. When I see a dog in a hot car, I call the police AND the animal shelter and stand by to make sure someone gets there before a window has to be broken.

Maybe leave a flyer stating: Your dog was dying so I broke your window and saved his life. Call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX

| Ooops! I didn't click the link (don't trust 'care*). I do the same but it's usually someone in Petsmart... go figure. Sometimes people just don't think!

| Am I the only one who doesn't think ALL people who leave their dog in a car is being a bad pet owner? I mean the way I see it if Miley and I were going to say the park or something and I had to run into walmart or somewhere to get something quick I would hope I didn't come back to a busted window with my dog missing...dogs just aren't aloud in some stores for obvious reasons but I don't think that makes the pet owner a bad person...I mean they're trying to get their dog out vs. leaving them at home alone all day. PLEASE understand I am NOT saying it is OKAY to leave a dog in a car for long periods of time (sunshine or no sunshine)! But unfortunately dogs are NOT aloud in every store. If I'm going grocery shopping or somewhere Miley isn't aloud for long periods of time I would obviously leave her at home. Last edited by xoCourtney; 06-05-2013 at 10:52 AM. |

if it is a 90 degree day i dont care if i am only running in the store for 5 minutes my babies stay home. they could die in the car in that 5 minutes cause the degrees in the car is probably 140....and if you leave the windows open to much someone could steal ur beloved baby... this is the point im trying to convey......just my three cents on that.

I am all for protecting dogs, and I think it's inhumane to leave a dog in a car on a hot day for long periods of time. But I don't think it's right to think breaking windows and calling the cops should be an immediate reaction. MANY cars have it nowadays where you can have the AC running when you are not in your car. My dads truck, stepmoms Jeep, etc, does this. You can hit a button on your remote to make your car start up before you are even in it. Also, you do not know the situation of the dog or the owner. I would hate to think that if I leave Jackson in the car for all of 60 seconds while I run into 7-11, I'd come out to a broken window. That would be extremely more traumatizing to him than being left for a short period of time. I would never go to the mall, or into a grocery store, and leave him in the car, personally. But I think people get this idea that at all times when a dog is left in a car it's cruel and it's just not always the case. Honestly, I've been in a car on a hot day without keys or air for probably 5 mins with windows cracked and I didn't die. Now if I see a dog that is clearly suffering, and I notice it's been a really long time, etc, I would have no qualms about calling AC or the cops. But I think it sucks that people have to be scared to leave their dogs in the car for even 30 seconds without people freaking out and calling the cops. Also, Jackson is always panting heavy in the car, even when it's 20 degrees outside... it's nervous reaction for him. I just think it's hard to judge. Are there a lot of A*holes out there who just... don't care, and leave dogs on scorching hot days for hours? Of course and that is horribly wrong. But I do think there should be limits. With that said, I would prefer to see people be more of an advocate against it than for it, so I think awareness is a good thing
