YT 2000 Club Member | Opinions on dog food..... I would like some opinions on these brands of dog food... Canine Caviar Fromm Earthborn Holistic I am seriously considering a switch in dog foods. I am presently feeding Blue Buffalo Freedom. Even though, they are growing, healthy for the most part, I continue to have issues with itching and dry, flaky skin. I have had them to the vets and a skin sample was taken. They did not find any thing in the sample. I give them coconut oil supplement daily and they still have itching. I don't think it is the shampoo/conditioner as they are better after a bath. It can't be the weather as it has been raining for weeks! The only thing left is their food! I am looking for a potato free food & one without chicken as the protein....basically a limited ingredient food. Oh and the kibble needs to be small....one is only 2 lbs. Any opinions and input is appreciated......Thank you all for the support!

| Fromm is all very small kibble. My boys eat one the Fromm 4-Star line. Other members here have suggested that for sensitive pups, it would be better to check out their Gold line because it has fewer ingredients. Fromm hasn't had any recalls to date, they have over 100 years experience in animal feed and care, and they manufacture in their own plants in the US. I also like that it is reasonably priced and relatively easy to find in specialty stores. I haven't tried the other foods you listed, so I can't compare.

| Hi Deb, we feed Canine Caviar to Princess Sophie. I decided to start her on that when we first got her because of all the threads I read about other YT'ers who had pups that had allergies and it seemed to me (at the time) that most of the recommendations were to switch to CC (it's grain free). We are currently using the puppy food formula as she's just shy of 6 months old. She loves it and to date we have had no problems whatsoever!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL

YT 2000 Club Member | I am leaning towards the CC or Fromm as Earthborn sent me sample and most of the kibble are too large! I love the ingredients of Earthborn, just not the size.

| Good luck with whatever you choose. Chloe would not eat the Fromm or the cc. The only ones she will eat are Royal Canin 29 and Now Fresh grain free with turkey, salmon, duck and omega oils.

| I wish there was one good food that all Yorkies did well on but unfortunately that isn't the case. We have tried all the Fromm G/F foods and they cause mushy poops in both of mine. Other than that, they liked the food and so did I. We switched to Canine Caviar because of the mushy poops (tried duck and now trying fish) and they will eat it and the size kibble is small which is really good since one of mine doesn't chew her food, only swallows. Poops are firm and I'm sticking to CC for now. I also had flaky, dry skin on one of my girls even after the switch in food. Went to vet and he didn't have any answer. I switched shampoo and conditioner and the dry skin has disappeared. I also add coconut oil to food daily.

YT 2000 Club Member | Can someone tell me why they put alfalfa in CC? Isn't that for horses and rabbits!

http://www.caninecaviar.com/glossary/sun-cured-alfalfa/ I switched mine recently to Fromm Surf & Turf & really wanted them to do well on it, but it didn't work out for us. I'm not sure what ingredient didn't agree w/them, but their poopie was on the soft side & they itched a lot (could be environmental, so I can't blame the food). We switched back to Canine Caviar Wilderness (grain fee venison, no potato) & they all have nice firm poopies again! It was probably the bz ingredient in Fromm that mine couldn't handle unfortunately, love the company but it didn't work out for us.

We tried the Fromm Surf & Turf and it didn't agree with my boys either. So we went back to the Chicken a la veg. Strangely, my guys can't handle the grain free foods.

| CC ( open sky) over here. I'm sure you all know by now! LOL I love CC! He has been on it for about 8 months and has been doing great! We had one issue- when I opened a new bag, I noticed Pnut was not eating, loose poopies, I took him off gave him boiled chicken. Once I took the food up he seemed better. I called the company ( they are actually right down the street from me) she wanted me to bring that food in so she can send it out to the lab to test it. She gave me a coupon for a free 4 pound bag, she also gave me tons of bully sticks, sweet potato chews, more coupons! Last week they called me back and said nothing came back on the tests- I'm not sure what happened- not sure what made him sick. He is on his new bag of CC open sky and is doing great! I think sometimes dogs just get tummy aches like us bc I have no reasons for him being sick. I love how they handeld that- they treated me wonderful and Pnut too!

| We feed Earthborn Holistics- Coastal Catch. I am careful not to feed any foods with two different meat sources, we seem to run into trouble with those. My two yorkies are the shiniest dogs on the block! (I think the minksheen shampoo helps!) |

| I have one dog who can eat anything but chicken & another who is always itchy. I've spent the last few days trying to decide on the next dog food for them. My wants are small kibble, grain free, potato free & chicken free, also. The CC Wilderness sounds excellent but very expensive. The one I'm also thinking about is Nutrisca Salmon which is grain free, potato free & no chicken. Has anyone tried the Nutrisca? Thank you so much! |

| Earthborn is made by Midwestern Pet Foods which is a pretty solid company IMO. It's a great EU Cert. plant with a great team of people. Never a recall. They also make Pro Pac. However, the EB Grain-Frees are very heavy in Peas, Pea Protein and Pea Fiber. I also would never feed the Primitive Natural formula due to it's high 12% ash (often the higher the ash, the lower quality of meats). Fromm is a great company, never had a recall, makes food in-house, family owned for over 100 years. I think their Grain-Frees are somewhat busy and pea-heavy, and I never had the best results on their foods, but I think their Classic and Gold lines are fantastic foods for a GREAT value! CC is a good simple brand! I've heard it works fantastic with allergy prone dogs, since the ingredient list is very simple and it's filled with probiotics. They claim to be the only food to prevent cancer, which is just kinda baloney IMO.
