| Advice for first ride home So tomorrow is the big day, I will be picking up my Joey! I even got a friend to take me so that I can carry him on the ride home and put him at ease. What do you guys recommend I bring with me? So far I'm bringing: - a plastic carrier with comfty mat inside -collar with tag -harness -leash -a chew toy and a plush toy -a blanket -water The trip will be a little less than a half hour should I bring a small container with kibble? How about Nutrical? Also since he is pee pad train would he be able to just pee outside before I put him in the car. I plan to pee pad train him and someone told me that I should just take a peepad with me and set it on my lap in case of an accident. Also with all the excitement I might forget so can you guys reccomend any questions I should ask the breeder? - for example what kind of food he eats and how many times a day (I already know what he eats btw). |

| Oh, and be sure to get the vaccination/health records, and find out how soon you have to have the vet inspection. Some breeders require them within 24 hours in order for the health guarantee to be valid. And if the puppy is AKC registered, be sure to get the transfer papers. |

| I would be prepared with several pee pads and paper towels as well. Just in case he gets car sick. Make sure you have a pee pad on your lap. The don't "announce" they are getting car sick, it just sort of happens. I went through 4 pee pads in a 2 hour ride.

| It's been a long time since I had a puppy but if he's very young or tiny, I would be tempted to rub some Nutrical on his gums when we first got in the car and before I put him in his safe carrier/seat in case the breeder hasn't fed him prior his trip in order to prevent him getting carsick. So if he's empty, hasn't eaten for a while, he might get hypoglycemic. And then I'd probably give him a bit more after getting him home and settling him quietly into his new surroundings.

| All good ideas here, especially Nutrical. Have a couple pee pads, and yes paper towels, wash cloth or wipies, cause it is common for them to throw up and potty due to nervousness during the drive. I don't think I'd push too much food right before the trip, as that can make them car sick too. If it were my pup, and such a short travel time, I'd put him in the crate or carrier for safety, and I don't think a collar or harness or leash is necessary for the short trip. It might make him more nervous. I'm assuming this is a new pup without vaccinations, so do NOT put him down outside anywhere to potty, etc. until a month after all vaccinations are complete. He could easily become infected with parvo, which is life threatening. Have fun with him, and show us pictures when you can. Good luck.

| I would try and make the short journey in his car ride as stress-less as possible too, no loud music on the radio etc, no road rage, LOL, and talk gentle to Joey so that he doesn't build a fear of travelling in the car. Sadly little Trixie will hide if she is aware that we are going somewhere in the car and I put that down to her bad start in life and getting transported to the SPCA and then back and forward foster home before we adopted her

| One more thing, some breeders will give you a small blanket or towel or something that has been with the mom and litter; the scent may help him be more comfortable in adjusting to his new home. In case you haven't seen it, here is the link to the Puppy Care Guide for new parents that is in the Yorkie Talk Library. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...w-parents.html
