YT 2000 Club Member | Flea and Tick Medication Hi Everyone! I took my Yorkies to the vet today. We discussed the various meds for fleas, ticks and heartworms. Now I live in California. I decided on using the Revolution because he said I need to do something. He wants me to use it all year. Last year used it in the summer only. I guess dogs need to be protected from the heartworm disease. He wrote me a scrip to order the med from PetMeds.com. So before we go comping I will use this. Sure wish I didn't have to use this but we must protect our dogs from pests. |

| Heartworms are pretty nasty to get rid of -- I read somewhere that if your pet contracts them it could be around $300 to treat, and they're also very dangerous. I personally use Trifexis because it also controls fleas and other parasitic worms because to be honest parasitic worms freak me out pretty badly. I have issues walking around barefoot now because I'm such a spazz about it! I used to have Nilla on Interceptor which didn't have the flea protection, but I have yet to see it back on the market again. -shrugs- I may be a terrible mommy for it, but I use Trifexis. D-:

YT 2000 Club Member | I used Revolution last year. Believe me I prayed over both dogs before I put that stuff on. They did not have any reactions to it. My frien's poodle breeder uses it. I have looked all the meds and reactions on line and I do think this one has the least side effects. I really depends on the dog. I will do it but really wish I did not have to use anything. |

| D-: I'm glad you said that because my friend was trying to tell me that Sentinel was new and really good, so I was going to research it. Not that I have a big problem with Trifexis ... I did find a tick on Nilla's mouth (odd ...) yesterday, but I guess that can still happen? I don't know. Everything's questionable when it comes to flea meds!

| ... and now I'm reading Trifexis is terrible for dogs. Oh gosh. I guess I'll be following this thread for suggestions now as well. If it's going to 'melt' Nilla's organs, there's no way I'll continue using it.

| I tried trifexis once but it didn't seem to agree with Dexter. He's on Sentinel now. |

| Mine used to be on interceptor/advantix II which worked wonderfully and both didn't have any reaction to either. But now that interceptor is gone (which I'm still really bitter about), I have them on Heartgard/Advantix II. Heartgard seems ok with them but for some reason, the advantix seems to bother them. I'm considering switching over to Sentinel/Advantix I. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I really believe the little dogs have more trouble with these flea and tick meds than the big guys. That's why I am trying to be so careful with what I use on my boys. They are not little, Spud is a whopping 9.5 lbs and JoJo is 9 lbs. My vet did say not to let them gain weight, it is bad for the legs. Just a tip to not let our friends get fat. Make a wise decision with the flea stuff. I pray someone will come up with something natural that works! |
