| New here Hi, I just joined, obviously, and am trying to understand the world of yorkies! I have a yorkiepoo and the dear little sweet baby that I bought in December has turned into a terror -- and I don't mean terrier! Please help me with my little girl turned into a chewing, acting out teenage dog! I love her to death but she has taken over the household and even though I am home with her all of the time she is into the trash, the tables if she can find an open spot to get on to the chair and on top of it...and even the shelves of bookcases! Thanks so much! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Oh my goodness...bless your heart. I'm fairly new here and a first time yorkie owner myself. I really don't have any advice, but there are a lot of yorkie smart people on this site. I'm certain someone will come along shortly with help for you. Good luck and welcome to YT!

| Hi and welcome to YT! You have come to the right place. I know others will be by to offer advice but I wanted to ask you if you have thought of tethering? That would be put your pup's harness (not collar) and leash on her and attach her to your belt loop (sometimes she's just attached to my wrist. This way she has to go everywhere you go and it's very easy to keep a close eye on her and teach her not do do those things. Don't punish her if she makes a mistake, remove her from the area and give her a toy to play with, then give lots of praise. They learn so much more from positive reinforcement than any punishment. Try to keep everything light and happy and be sure to reward her and tell her what a good girl she is when she does something right. I know how this works because I have received this kind of advice and am using it right now to help with potty training. Good luck and please let us know how things work out. Again, welcome!!

| Sounds like you have a ball of fun on your hands dogs go through stages and each stage is different. They are very curious little creatures and just need a little guidance. I agree with Lydrev1 that positive reinforcement works. I have always raised my girls like that and they learn that when they are good they get the attention that they desire. Kinda likeo raising children Welcome to YT you will love it here and find lots of support and help

| Hello to all! No I sure never thought of tethering...but that is a thought...have had Tootsie out on a leash which really put her in a tizzy since she likes to do everything her way! I will have to try that. My poor mini Chi who is about 4 pounds dripping wet is just totally overpowered by her...as are the cats ! She cracks me up but also ticks me off...she is the most rambunctious dog I have ever had! Thank you for that advice...I will give it a try! |

| Have you considered obedience class that uses positive reinforcement ? It will put you in charge and teach you howmtomset limits. She sounds like. Really, really curious little one who is very daring!

| Tethering is just what I was going to say too. Also, take her somewhere she's never been... just you and her ... she will count on you to let her know all is well in a strange place. Good luck, I'll watch for updates on her adventures!!! |
