| I'm new here :) Hello, I'm new to this forum and to Yorkies. I am married, a Mother of 3 little girls and a crafter. We have a Miniature Schnauzer named Maizie. She is 17 months old and so precious! We are bringing home a new baby girl Yorkie on May 18th. We are so excited to get her! I was told that her parents are between 3-5 lbs so I guess she will be a teacup. I am hoping she grows a little bigger than that. I wasn't looking for a particular size of Yorkie. I have been looking for quite a while and she is the only local Yorkie pup I have found. We are not sure what to name her yet. I am also on a Schnauzer forum and getting advice on how to introduce our schnauzer to the new pup. Maizie has not been around too many dogs except for my brothers Doberman. She is a little intimidated by him because he is so large so she lashes out at him when she sniffs her. We saved 2 tiny kittens from being hit by a car last Summer and Maizie did well with them. She did put her mouth on them but it was very gently. She was just trying to hold them still. She is very curious and will want to play with this pup so I will be on guard and never leave them alone until the pup is a bit bigger and Maizie is fully used to her. Any peice of advice would be very helpful Last edited by ChristyL; 05-04-2013 at 09:27 AM. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your soon to be new addition. I agree with closely supervising whenever introducing a new pup, especially when there is a size difference. An xpen or babgates can be useful when you need to separate them and for many other things like potty training or restricting freedom when you can't supervise.

| Hi Christy and welcome to YT! Congrats on getting your new pup! We also have a mini schnauzer and a yorkie. Our schnauzer was here before we got our yorkie and, Hansel, is almost 10 years old. Because Hansel is so much older...it has taken some time for him to become accustomed to the new baby. Give it time...we actually took Hansel to meet her on the first visit then we also took him when we picked her up so he could be part of the process. I think that helped a bit. Please be very careful when your schnauzer is with your yorkie because they have a very delicate bone structure and can break something very easily. I wish you the best! Good luck and please keep us posted and share pictures as soon as you can. We all love to see pictures of each other's pup's.

| welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby. I would like to suggest an ex pen so that when you can't watch your new baby at least it can be safe. I like you had another dog when I got Pixie and that is what I did. I also did not let them intermingle for a few weeks and never without watching. In the beginning I only let Daisy sniff Pixie through the ex pen bc she was adjusting to her new environment too. It didn't take long before they were the best of pals.

| Thank you so much for all of your replies! I can easily block off rooms and spaces with gates. My Schnauzer is a tiny thing. She is only 12 lbs and doesn't even look that big. She can jump but has never been able to get over our 2' baby gate that we have in the kitchen. I will block off one room and keep the new pup (I need a name for her) in there and let Maizie watch her and sniff her. |
