| Hello All - New to site Hello everyone. I'm Rob, my girlfriend is Samantha. We have a 7-10yr old Yorkie named Bear. He was her dog. Now I love the little guy as well. We have some behavior and more recently, sanitation issues with Bear. We are running out of ideas. We have come to the point to where final options for him has come up in conversations. We are not ready for that step.. I don't want to loose part of our family, and I know It would crush Samantha if we had to put him down. He has been with her for over 5 years. We would greatly appreciate any ideas, input, guidance. The frustration is become overwhelming for both of us. Is this forum where we should ask our questions? |

| Hi Rob, Samantha & Bear Welcome to YT! I'm really hoping you'll be able to find a solution to your problem. It must be both frustrating & heartbreaking for you. I was wondering if you can go into a little more detail about Bear's sanitation issue. I can figure out the gist of it, but specifics would help alot to pinpoint the problem & find a solution. Is he marking, or is he peeing all over the house? Does he typically go inside on piddle pads, or outside? Is he in a crate/expen during the day, or does he roam the house? Stuff like that. Alot of times, pups continue to go where they have before, because they can still smell their urine - even though we can't smell it. A good enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle can help with that. I'm not sure what you've already tried, so anymore specifics would help. Thanks

| First have him thoroughly checked out by a Vet. to see it it's a medical problem. If it isn't, then maybe it's an emotional one. Has anything changed in his life. New people around, new surroundings, a lost toy and so on. Take him for walks at the same time every day. Feed him at the same time. Make sure he get to go outside to potty and play often, so his mind can be more stimulated and not focused on being inside doing nothing. Putting him down should not be an option unless he is dying and in constant pain.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I agree with the posts above -- share some details of what kind of issues you are dealing with and people here can give you great advice. A vet check to rule out health issues is the place to start.
