Hi and welcome to YT! Your pup is too cute!

As for care, just make sure you are well versed on signs of hypoglycemia and watch for those, make sure the pup gets good every few hours to maintain blood sugar (or just free feed - leave the food out all the time), get some Nutrical (just in case of hypoglycemia), make sure the pup gets all shots and heartworm meds when it can, limit access to all areas of house until house trained (I suggest an xpen with area enough for bed, pee pads, water/food, toys). Mostly, just love it

Congrats!!

Yep, that is a very active combo. Good luck with your little "spit-fire".

Just make sure soon as you get him, you socialize him constantly, but don't take him for walks or walk him on pet shop floors or anywhere except your own yard till he's finished with all his puppy shots. I would then strongly suggest you take him to obedience school.

I was thinking that, too. This little guy might be reminiscent of that cartoon Tasmanian Devil...spinning and bouncing off the walls! He sure is a cutie pie, though!

Of course, now that I've said that, he'll probably turn out to be a docile lap warmer...lol

Welcome to YT I echo the sentiments of OMG a YT and a Jack Russel Mix?

Phew what a combo. I don' t know the health risks of JR's, but I do for Yorkies. May I suggest you go to the JR National Club site and find out their health concerns. If there are duplicates in certain areas to Yorkies that would be good to know.

I believe particularly with this mix, it is Imperative to get good training over the lifetime of this dog. Start with puppy obedience and continue on.

Jack Russels' are a very dominant breed, active, territorial, and fierce! And guess what so can Yorkies be.

I will share a story happened two days ago. I was stopped and watching two dogs begin to greet each other. One a Jack russel, and one a Yorkie poo or so - another small dog. The two female owners were clueless as to how to introduce strange dogs to each other. two tight leads, one body rigid and eagerly straining forward. And of course it happened! THe Jack Russel went for the other dog. The owner had him up in the air and he was straining forward to leap out of her arms to "get" to that innocuous dog.

JR's and Yt's are both serious dogs in a small package. Now some here might disagree with me about Yt's but if you have really researched their history and have a finely tempered YT's they are quite simply big dogs in a small dog package.

So I do say take that little one to obedience training early and often. You particularly need to know how to correct, discipline and train your wee one.

Welcome what a cutie, I wonder how long his hair will get. If it will have any length or stay short. Remember you can start training and socializing early. With any small breed that is important so you don't end up with one of those small dogs that only likes one person and is aggressive with everyone one else.

Welcome to YT. Yes, I agree that this will be one active baby. I researched several breeds prior to selecting a yorkie and yes the Jack Russel was on my short list.

I maybe shot over this suggestion since I don't know everyone's thoughts over the show but Animal Planet's Dogs 101 I think gives some really good overall information on dog breeds.

I would suggest maybe checking out the segments on both breeds, as well as a good book on both breeds.

101 on Yorkie

101 on Jack Russell

In addition to obedience training due to both breeds having propensity to being territorial, my biggest concern would be their exercise requirements. I have learned in just 2 months with my yorkie, a well played out puppy is a good (ok well better) puppy. JR's require A LOT of exercise and activity. You are going to have fun channeling the energy, but based on the good points of both breeds, you are in for a lifetime of fun and joy if you keep him/her on the right track. This won't be a get it and forget it type dog.

He's adorable! He definitely has a lot of JRT characteristics. I would think (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) that if he is going to have a blended coat with some length, it will start showing in the next couple of weeks. He will get some "fluff" to him if he's going to.

Not me. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record. Please research the health of Jr's and if you don't know YT's those too. Also look into pet insurance at a very early age, and get one that covers genetic defects.

This is not to burst your bubble of happiness in adopting this mix, but hey it is good to protect your puppy and yourself financially.

Please don't take home a pup under 2lbs and under 8wks old - quite simply for toy breeds it is way too young and too light.
