| 1st bath Enzo has been with us just over a week and its time for his 1st bath at our house. I'm not sure why I'm nervous but I think it's because my other dog hated her baths, maybe I'm stressing that Enzo will too. Can you give me a readers digest version of what I should have close by and how I can bathe him quickly & efficiently. Do you wash in the tub? Sink? Basin? What do you rinse with? Hand held shower? Cup? I should mention Enzo is good when I brush him, is not happy when I clean his eyes, but still lets me do it. Please help Thanks so much

| Teddy hates baths so I have my sink prepped before we start. Small bottle with diluted shampoo, small bottle with diluted conditioner, wash towel for face, cup for rinsing, and drying towel. All within reach. Then fill sink with few inches of warm water. I hold teddy with my left hand and wash/ rinse with right. Whole bath takes about ten minutes. Then I bundle him up and take him over small bathroom to blow dry and comb. |

| My yorkie is 16 pounds so I bathe her in the tub but if he is small enough I would do it in the sink. I use the shower head to rinse Callie's body but a cup to rinse her head and face. Make sure you have a towel to dry him with and a towel to wrap him up in. After I would bathe Callie as a pup I would dry her really good and then wrap her up in a towel and she would fall asleep. My vet recommends using an ear cleaner after baths that has a drying agent in it to dry any water that go in there out so them don't get an ear infection. The way I got Callie to like baths is I would sing silly songs to her.

| Mine hate baths. I bathe in a utility sink, because it's deep. Mine also like to stand with their paws on the edge of the sink. So the deep sink keeps water from going everywhere. It's also easier on my back than in a tub. I use a handheld shower that I connect to the faucet. It's easier for me to move my hand, than to move my dog. I also keep everything I need (shampoo, conditioner, face wash, towels) with in arm's reach & open. Nothing's worse than trying to open a bottle of conditioner with a slippery, soapy hand when your pup is trying to climb out of the sink. I also prepare the drying, grooming area prior to the bath so my wet pup doesn't have to wait for me to get everything set up. I use a washcloth to rinse their face. I feel like I can control that better than a cup. I squeeze the water from washcloth over their snout to rinse that area & keep the water from getting in the nose. I also use a soft toothbrush to clean around the eye area & the mustache. I've just found that a toothbrush helps clean any crusty eye stuff & I can keep the shampoo from getting in their eyes. I brush them prior to the bath, to make sure I'm not snarling up any tangles that may be in their coat. I also comb their coat when the conditioner is in it. That's pretty much all I can think of. Oh, neither one of mine like having their faces dried with the hairdryer. I'm assuming all Yorkies are that way, since both of mine are. They like to burrow their head in a towel while I'm drying their face. So I always have an extra dry towel for them to burrow...whatever makes them more comfortable. Lol Good luck with the bath! Mine have gotten a lot better since they were puppies. They now know the routine. I don't think they like it, but they know it's unavoidable. So they tolerate it

| Ok. Don't laugh at me, but I have found the least stressful way to bathe Huey is to put him in the tub with me. Dh makes fun of this, but that way he can stand up on my legs when he gets nervous. He absolutely freaks at a sink/sprayer bath and the whole kitchen and I get soaked, so the tub is just easier. If I put him in the tub but don't get in with him, then my back is killing me by the time I am done, and I'm soaked anyway. So, that is my solution.

| Mine watches everything I do like a hawk....she hated her baths, scratched my arm trying to climb out and everything...so I had this idea, when I took a shower to keep her in the bathroom with me and keep the sliding shower door open while I take a shower, she watched me, barked at first, then just layed down and waited for me to finish.....did this for about a month..then took her into the shower, I have a small pet tub with a handheld pet shower, tried again, and to my shock...she just stood there while I gave her a bath, didn't get her head wet until the end, she was so good I couldn't believe it...I think she learned from watching me...crazy...but true....might be worth a try if you have little ones that watch everything you do... |

| Bath Time I am laughing right now...sorry! I just asked my husband to replace our shower head so I can put Hannah in with me. Just think it would be easier too! She hates her bath and attacks the blow dryer until she sees me put it to my hair. She watches me and says if mommy can do it then so can I. Love the look on her face!! I saw this look when I introduced her to a new brush. So curious!! She watched me brush my hair and then let me brush hers with no problem. These little darlings just warm my heart!

| When Gracie was a puppy I bathed her in the bathroom sink. She was so tiny! Now that she is a grown up girl I bathe her in the kitchen sink. You might want to use a wet washcloth on his face around his eyes. They tend to freak if they get water in their nose so I try to avoid pouring water over the face. I do the head and face first to get the scary part out of the way. Using a wet soapy cloth on the face and also rinsing with a cloth seems to lower the stress level. You may want an extra pair of hands if you are feeling kind of nervous about it. They can get very slippery. Using an all natural shampoo will help keep from hurting the eyes or stripping the skin a and coat. I really think using a tub on a small pup is kind of scary for them. The smaller sink makes them easier to handle and it sure is easier on the back! |

| I also put a towel or a mat down on the bottom of the sink so her feet don't slip around while I'm washing her. Pups get scared if they can't get their footing on a slippery tub or sink bottom. |

| I bathe my Yorkie puppy Bella in the kitchen sink. I set a small plastic wash basin in the sink and place a washcloth on the bottom of the basin so she doesn't slip. I have a terry cloth towel close by for preliminary drying. I use a shampoo specific for dogs that I bought at Petsmart--it is milder than human shampoo and won't cause tearing. I test the water before running it over Bella to make sure it is luke warm--not too hot and not too cold. I use a cup to gently wet her completely, and then squirt small amounts of shampoo onto different parts of her fur. I work the shampoo in gently, starting at the neck and working down the body. I do the head last so if she gets soap in her eyes, it's only for a moment. Then I rinse her off using the cup to pour the water over her gently, starting at her head and working my way down. I am very careful with the face so I don't drown her or wash soap into her eyes. I do not use a separate conditioner, but if you do, be sure you get one specifically for dogs. After she is rinsed off, I let her shake on the towel, and then gently blot her with the towel. I finish the drying with a blow dryer. Test the blow dryer on your skin first to make sure it's not too hot, and don't hold it too close to the dog's body. When her fur is just slightly damp, I let her finish air drying in a warm room, and then brush her gently with a pin brush. It takes only about 10 minutes from the start of the bath to finishing the blow drying, and maybe 20 extra minutes of air drying. I do this once a week, and if she gets smelly in the meantime, I use one of the "dry shampoos" you can buy for dogs at Petsmart to deodorize her. You just rub a little into her fur, blot off the excess, and let the rest air dry. |

| I put the shampoo (minksheen) in a recycled handsoap pump container w/ water. The foam makes it so easy to use- no over- shampoo or waste! |
