| Why are Rawhides even made? I know this is a subject discussed a lot. It just baffles me why rawhides are even produced. And WHY a pet store would stock an entire aisle of them (e.g. PetSmart)...? I have never given any dog (big or small) a rawhide. My vets have always told us never to give them rawhides because they don't digest...not to mention the choking hazards. I just don't get why they are even made and sold in stores if even vets know they are dangerous. Grrrr

| I agree and other things are stocked and sold that are unsafe like greenies. I think most pet stores are catering to the big dog owner more anyway most of the toys and stuff are for bigger dogs. Big dog owners though shouldnt be giving raw hide either but I bet they do from the amount thats on the shelves

| I could even "get" the companies that make them doing it if they sell. What I don't get is why places that are FOR these animals (like PetSmart, etc) would sell them. It's so silly. And sadly, you know they do it for money...which means they DO sell, which means there are so many dogs out there ingesting them

My co-workers showed me a picture of her son’s lab puppy eating a rawhide- I immediately told her “ you better tell your son to take that away and NOT give him rawhides” Which she did and she explained the dangers, he now uses bully sticks for him.

| All we can do is educate- Any one that comes on here- or anyone even mentions feeding rawhide, I will tell them the dangers. Half the time they don’t know. The more we educate people, the more they can spread the word to their friends with pets.

I will admit - I never really researched my dogs beyond "temperment and how hard to take care of and such" before I got Mandie. However, I've always been attentive to what I let them ingest. I've really grown as a doggy mommy since last August

| Even if someone did research you would be surprised at the lack of information out there on the net. We just get a wealth of info on here so other people that arent on a forum like this dont get that info

| I agree the rawhides should not be made. There are a lot of things being sold for dogs that are so dangerous. Most of the toys I see in pet stores and department stores have choking hazards as well. And don't get me started on the treats! |

| My mum has had any dog we ever owned hooked on these. The ones made out of big shoes? etc. I thought it was good for their teeth. I should look more into the ingredients. Because I never really understand the process of how it is made. |

| Rawhides are made for the same reasons as pet food, & pet treats. ......MONEY! It's always been up to us to protect our little companion animals from bad food, bad Vets. bad medications and all. We have to be the ones in charge and to protect them.
