| This breaks my heart Just a vent! But from day 1 I've kept Mia in a crate at night. I know most people here let their fur balls sleep with them but I wanted Mia to be independent and have her own space. It didn't take long for her to understand that the crate was hers. Occasionally I would let her sleep with me at night and she loved that! However, as of just this week, Mia won't even sleep with me at night anymore. She will cuddle for about 5 minutes and then she stands up, looks at me and looks at her crate...then jumps off the bed and in her crate she goes! I don't know why but it kinda breaks my heart. She is growing up :-( she will still take naps on me though...at least that's something!

YT 2000 Club Member | Awww....I would miss that sooo much! Mine sleep with me for naps and bedtime! I love the cuddle time and if they didn't want that any more, it would make me sad, too! Right now, I have one an my lap and one beside me, napping.

| TBH I never really had a problem with Jasper sleeping in my bed at the time. My boyfriend wasn't officially moved in. And I planned for him to sleep next to me. I felt sorry for him the first night when he cried, cause I knew he missed his brother and sister,& mum and dad. So I let him. Even though he couldn't jump up himself, he did keep trying and I just let him everynight since then. We don't mind it. He sleeps by your feet right in the middle. He's not very independent. I think it's great she understands private space, social space, and public space. She has probably learned not to disrupt your private space, and she is showing you respect. My other dog cora who lives with my mum, actually has her own room. She is three now, and she is a very balanced happy dog. She likes her own room because she stores her bones etc in it. It doesn't mean Mia loves you any less! You are just pack leader; and pack leader gets the bed! Last edited by Summerbummer; 04-14-2013 at 11:40 AM. |

| I don't know where you live, but last week we had some very high temps here. Mine will usually vacate the bed at night... it's just too warm for them when the outside temps rise, and opt to sleep under it or on the floor in one of their many doggie beds.

| what does she lay on in the crate, you could always try putting that on your bed just to see what she does. Lola likes those soft round beds with the high sides, so she sleeps in one on top of our bed. She starts off for a min or two near me for a quick cuddle and then she promptly finds her bed and climbs in it and spend the whole night there. I think some dogs like a small space to cuddle up in and that gives Lola her own space while on our bed. Sometimes when my husband is not around after she crawls in her bed I will pull it up real close to me and lay my head on the side of it, she does not seem to mind that, but if she was laying flat in that same spot she would get right up and move further away and into her bed if it was there. Not sure if this will work for you but it is worth a try.

| Yeah another good reason, Jasper is cold and likes the heat under the blanket. Cora is a pom and is a bit on the heavy side with a big coat. She lies on the tiles and jasper lies right on the sofa on your lap. |

| I know how you feel, Joel sleeps with me every night and a few nights ago he just got up and left me to go sleep with aunty that was the first time we've ever slept apart. I was so sad and could barely sleep, I was about to get him and put him back in the bed but I didn't want him to sense that I was needy haha |

| They say some dogs like a crate to call their own. I have never had one of those dogs crate loving dogs although I have tried it on occasion. Gracie has slept with me from day one. The other night I turned on my ceiling fan for the first time this year. It was on low speed for just a few minutes. It made the room more comfortable for me but apparently Gracie was miffed about it.(she would love to live in the tropics) She got up and walked to the living room. I went to check on her a few minutes later and there she was all rolled up in her blanket that sits on one end of the couch. I have to admit I felt shunned. She did come back in on her own after an hour or so. I guess she let me know how things stand with the ceiling fan and her. In the summer I usually have to put her pajamas on her if the AC or the fan is on. |

| Callie does that too. She would much rather be in her crate at night unless I'm sick or she is sick.

| Jess sleeps in a crate in my daughters room. She used to sleep downstairs in her bigger crate but she'd bark at 3am. Once we put her in my daughters room there was never a problem.I cant let her out of the crate at night as my kids are littlest pet shop hoarders and she would most likely end up eating one the kids left on the floor. As for me, i just wouldnt be comforable with a dog sleeping in my bed. For one I'd always be afraid I or the hubby would roll on her, she would fall off the bed, or Id have some trouble with her dander (jess, as much as I love her always has doggie smell and it sometimes bothers me in the breathing dept) |

| Huey always sleeps in the bed with us. I work nights so when I sleep during the day, he is right next to me. Same with hubby at night. Sometimes I stay up at night when I'm home, and Huey stays on the sofa with me. If I move around too much and disturb him, he will get in bed with dh. Waahhhhh...breaks my heart, too.

| Blazer always sleeps in his crate at night, too. I've given him the chance to sleep in his own bed but he always ends up back in his crate. If I nap on the couch he loves to curl up in the crook of my legs, though.

| We have two basset hounds and one of them sleeps with my friend every night on a twin size bed. I think my friend would give anything if she would sleep in their crate. |
