| Don't tell Yumi I told you but... Liloo gave us FLEAS! I kept my sister's morkie over the weekend, and Yumi started itching. I've found 6 fleas so far, all of them big. I think she's sensitive to them, maybe a mild flea allergy. They certainly bother her a lot more than they ever did Yuri. I've been combing around 4 times a day, and haven't found anything in the last 2 days. She seems less itchy... Maybe I'm just paranoid but... I'm worrying there are eggs all over the house. I have all hard floors I've swept and mopped, I've washed all the pillows, blankets and dog beds, but there are some chairs and stuff I can't wash what should I use on them? She's on advantage multi. Should I worry about a home spray? Are any of them actually safe? Should her flea stuff be enough? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm not really sure about this. Clyde only had fleas once as a puppy and after one flea bath I didn't have any issues again. Hopefully there is someone with more experience with handling fleas that will be able to give you a better answer Did you let your sister know her doggie has fleas?

| I think the best thing to do with it being "that time of year" is to get the flea drops. That will kill the adults and the eggs. I would definitely wash everything as you are doing and vacuum again in a couple of days after the drops. The drops really are good for killing all of them in the house. I wouldn't spray anything. I just don't trust sprays even with bigger dogs..much less these littles.

| Flea drops would be a monthly topical treatment like advantage, advantix, or frontline. I've used frontline on Yuri since he was a puppy, but when I took Yumi last year the vet recomended advantage multi instead it has the heartworm stuff in it too. We didn't have any issues last year but if liloo brings in fleas every time she comes over I'm not sure if it will be enough. From what I've read frontline kills all life stages and advantage and advantix only kill adults? Liloo is usually only here for a few house once a week or so, I'm sure she's got some kind of flea treatment going on, but I would guess it's more like flea baths or walmart drops rather than one of the more expensive treatments. |

| Thank you for the explanation. I knew about the topical flea 'spot' treatments, of course...just never heard them called 'flea drops'...guess I was hoping they were something new. lol I hope the fleas you found were the only ones and they did not get a foothold in at your place. I am not a big fan of fleas.

| I wouldn't trust the Walmart flea stuff. Since it's your sister, why don't you ask her if she wants to go halfs with you on the good flea stuff? Just tell her her dogs has fleas and they stuff she's using isn't working, and that your dogs gets flea allergy. (My Uni gets BAD flea allergy, so if this were me, I'd say no more visiting unless she gets better flea stuff, not worth it to put mine through something like that.)

| oops, sorry...I went away and just got back here to see the replies. LOL - yeah, maybe it is a southern "thang"...I've always called them drops. Sorry about the confusion. Hmmm, that brings to mind what I call the things at the store that you push around and put stuff in. What do you call them where you live? My friend from Mass makes fun of me because down here - we call them Buggies. Back to the OP - the flea drops/topical that have always worked for me is Advantix (sp?) (I believe many have success with Frontline, but I've never tried it).
