| Getting a Yorkie Hi everyone! This is my first post, as I just joined today! I've been reading for a little while because I am seriously thinking about getting a little girl Yorkie. I live in an apartment and am a recent college graduate who has one roommate. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice to help me out and if anyone knew of any reputable breeders in Alabama who don't charge an arm and a leg for a puppy. I am not looking to breed or to show her, so $1000 is a bit much for me. Thanks and I look forward to learning and posting more!!

| Go to the YTCA site and look for breeders that are listed in your state. There are several listed for Alabama, Take those names and start doing some research. Can't speak for the names listed in Alabama but I can tell you that the most of the ones listed for Texas are reputable. I would feel comfortable starting my search on YTCA. If you can attend shows that another good way to find reputable breeders. Whatever you do, don't just start a random internet search and trust just anyone with a nice website. Always do your research.

| I have found that the breeders listed on the internet charge 2-3 times more than breeders found in local newspapers. I don't know that they are any more reputable online than on the newspaper. My little Cinnamon was $2500 from a breeder in California. I looked at less expensive puppies, but none of them seemed right for me. Definately DO NOT buy the first puppy you see....make sure you check out a few different breeders and make sure to look at the parents and check out their temperament and their friendliness.

| You can also try Breeders.net. You can search for a breeder by zip code, and it pulls up breeders that have registered in your area. Some will have websites or pictures and they also tell you if their puppies are AKC and some post their prices also. Good Luck!! |

| Well, I won't be getting a puppy right now. I am so sad! My sister is my roommate and she says she just doesn't want a dog in the house. She will be moving out the first of next year, so I guess I will have to wait until then. I'm still going to keep reading and learning from you guys and one day when I can get my little girl, I will be prepared. Thanks so much for all your help!

| You have to be very careful and make sure you see the parents. That's pretty much what you'll get. A mixture of both. Stay away from stores and brokers. Also people who don't have the parents available. Also you may consider a Yorkie-poo.They are cheaper. |
