| Need some advice/opinions I have a question to all the experienced yorkie owners out there. I can't afford a yorkie puppy, but have found several excellant rescues locally that have yorkies for adoption. They range in age from 18 months up. My question is....can a mature or adolescent yorkie be trained like a puppy? Any feedback is welcome. Ken |

| Yes, they can. I got Tatiana when she was three years old. I indoor potty-trained her to my home, got her to walk comfortably in a leash and harness (which I think was new to her), and got her to be comfortable in a pet carrier tote when we went out and took airline flights (I think the pet carrier tote was new to her, too). She learned and adjusted very well. |

| Yorkies can be stubborn but are very smart. My mom rescued a 6 year old yorkie and he was house trained but there where some other behaviors he had to be trained out of and he was very quickly. Callie my yorkie is about to turn 6 and she still can learn and pick up on tricks very fast.

| I believe a dog can be trained at any age, but some dogs have behavioral problems that are more of a challenge. A good rescue is equipped to assess dogs with special needs. Talk to the rescues and meet the dog before you commit. Best wishes in your search for a great companion. Rescue is a great way to go. There are so many dogs in need of loving homes.

| I also want to add that you can form an equally strong bond with an adult as you can a puppy. My first 2 dogs were 2 and 6 when we brought them home, and my Teddy was 8 months. The bond is just as strong as it is with the one I raised from 13 weeks.
