| What questions should I ask? If a person is giving away a free yorkie what questions should you ask that person? Is it ok to ask for the vet's phone number to call about the dog's medical history? Would a vet even give out that info? I just want to make sure I'm not taking on another person's sick dog. What warning signs should I look out for when I go look at the dog? |

| If it's free, just snatch it and run before they change their minds? Ha ha...just kidding! Out of curiosity, why have they decided to give him/her up? Yeah, definately vet records, ask if you can contact their vet to ask questions. |

| Was this posted in the paper? Free Yorkie? OMG - scary. My guess without knowing anything is that they could not house train the dog, which is probably the number one reason people give up their Yorkies but these are the questions: 1. Why are you giving up the dog? 2. Do you have any medical papers on the dog? 3. How is the dog around children? 4. Is the dog house trained? 5. Why are you giving up the dog? 6. How is the dog around other dogs? 7. How old is the dog? 8. Is the dog neutered? 9. How is the dog with grooming? 10. Why are you giving up the dog? The reason I kept putting in the question "Why are you giving up the dog" is to see if they change their answer as the discussion goes along. I have to tell you that anyone who would offer a free Yorkie does not have the best interest of the dog in mind. Someone could come along and get the dog and use it as bait in dog fighting I am not sure if I would trust any of their answers. If this dog is not for you then you might want to encourage them to turn the dog over to Yorkie Rescue so the animal will be well taken care of. Maybe they don't understand just what could happen to the dog. P.S. A puppy might develope health issues down the road also. Good Luck.

| The dog is 5 years old. The person says they cannot keep the dog because they are not home enough. The person would also like to do an interview and a home inspection. I think that sounds like they care about the dog's future. What should I look for on the dog's body that can tell me if the dog is sick? |

| You have already been given some great questions to start with. If they want to do an interview/home inspection, it does sound like they care and want the best and would not be offended by you wanting the best also. Alot of health poblems are overlooked by the untrained (medically) eye. I would still suggest contacting their vet? Sounds like you may have stumbled onto something great! Good luck and keep us posted! |

| A couple things on the dogs body you can look at are their teeth. See if they are clean & not missing any! Also check in their ears to see if they are clean. If the dogs ears look like they have dirt in them, they could have ear mites. Just a couple things you can look at. Good luck & I hope you found yourself a great free yorkie!!
