| It's safer to wait till she's done her heat. There's an increased risk of bleeding when in heat.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Unless it is an emergency I would wait. I had to have Cali spayed while in heat due to a suspected abdominal blockage. It was riskier and I had it done by a board certified surgeon. It was much more expensive too.

| Kyra went into heat at barely 6 months. Our vet said they would not spay her until it was over for at least a week due to higher risks. Also got great advice here about waiting for her growth plates to finish growing.

| No. When I took in my Little Luci as a re-home she was in heat. I had to wait until 6 weeks after her heat to have her spayed. This gave time for all blood vessels and uterus to return to normal size. Less risk of blood loss.

| Just make sure you keep her away from any possible contact with male dogs..inside always for sure. But, yes, my vet said it is much riskier to do the spay if the heat cycle has started. Waiting is best.
