| Giving up my Yorky I am about to give my yorky to somebody else...before you comment..let me explain. Got her about a month ago and she is only three months old. Use to take her to work with me and now am not allowed anymore. There's nobody at home to look after her. What I want to know : Is it fair to let her stay at home all by herself or is it better to let her go and have a family where she can be looked after the whole day. |

| It must be heart breaking to have to think of giving your baby up. Is there any stay-at-home friend that could keep her for a few hours a day? Your location says Brits. Is that as in England? Maybe you have a neighbor who may need to socialize another puppy and could keep her a few days as a playmate for his/her baby too? Could the breeder keep her for a few days? Don't give up yet. Keep brainstorming.

| This is indeed difficult situation. Many of us work a full time job. How many hours will you be out in the day, how many days a week, are your weekends free? I believe with patience and lots of attention they can adjust to this. As an advocate for free feeding that is definately a way to be sure she is eating. Just be sure the decision you make is the best one for her, and thank you for coming here for guidance.

| I work all day so there is no one home for Brandi during the day. She is fine. She mostly sleeps during the day. If possible setup a webcam to see how she is doing in your absence before you decide to give her up. Start now getting her use to be alone by leaving for short periods and then gradually increase that. The biggest thing is she needs to know is that you are coming back home There are a lot of people who have yorkies that stay home alone and they are just fine. |

| Is she tiny? Have you had any problems with her blood sugar dropping? If not, she should be fine. Just leave her in a safe place with food and water. Could you get another small dog? Sometimes this helps with the separation anxiety. I hope this all works out for you and your little one.

| I am a teacher and head of department, so I have a lot of after school responsibilities. Free at weekends but still can't imagine her staying for 7 to 9 hours alone. I also believe in free feeding. Live in a complex and concerned that she will cry and bother the other people. The Brits where I'm staying is in South Africa. Really don't mingle with the others and most of the people her are against having pets. So I don't have anyone to turn. But I will keep on brainstorming today and by tomorrow will know the answer. Thank you for replying and maybe that will be the break through! |

| At first she was very picky with food. No kibble pleased her. Got a recipe book for yorkies and made home food ...some she likes..some she hates.. She weighed 700 grams and after one month she is now 990 grams. She loves children and could't wait for us to get to school! This is such a hard and emotional thing for me. But am still brainstorming. |

| When I first got Troy, I worked away from the home. Troy stayed either in a crate or either in an exercise pen.

| Ideally everyone would stay home to be with our fur babies but unfortunately the world isn't Ideal. Reality is people have to work. I went through this debate with myself and my in laws (who seemed adamant that it was cruel etc) before I got my pup. I did some research and a dog sleeps between 14-17 hours a day. So that is 8 hours when I do that leaves 6-9 hours during the day. When I thought about it I thought it would be silly not to have her cause I know when we're together I give her great quality time! I am lucky that I work close by so I'm able to come home for lunch and let her out. If I worked further away I'd still would have gotten her but would have had a company come by in the afternoon to check on her. My vote is keep her unless she has a medical issue that requires someone to keep an eye on her. I think here in England it's looked as being neglectful to have a dog and work more so then in the states. Since I'm American and my in laws are British they really seemed to give me some attitude about this decision. So do what is best for your fur baby and yourself and not what others think |

| This baby I got as a present without me knowing...that's why I took her to school everyday. Complaints was made to the principal about pets at school . And I decided ..kept me awake through the night.... that she will be better off with my daughter's friend who also have a small yorky. They can then be friends and no boring hours for her. |

| Oh gosh... I can't stand people that just can let others live and enjoy life. That's unfortunate that you can no longer bring your pet with you. If you are only giving up the yorkie because you work. Not you can't afford, take care of, keep safe... then you should keep him. Like someone pointed out most people work regular hours AND have a dog (any dog). Including yorkies. Maybe your daughter can bring him along and her friends and your dog can be friends.
