Default giving him up

He is 1 yrs 3mths old and been with us since he was 6 mths old.

He has been biting everything he can find in the aprtment.

Wires, furniture, curtains, papers, floor rugs, carpets, u name it.

We try to put all stuff on out table and yet again he find means to jump up to the table.

We have exhuasted all our efforts and decided enough is enough.

Tried crate him and he barked whole day and we got 3 complains from our aprtment.

Nothing can be done now.have to say good bye.

I'm so sorry that your experience with little Mocca has been so difficult I saw some of your past posts & it seems like you really care about him. I'm not sure how difficult it would be in Singapore to try to work with a trainer, a professional who can help you find ways to work with both of you to correct some of his behavior? Have you tried anything like that?

yes we enjoy him very much and love him so dear.

but it is wearing us out. every-time we come back, something is broken. the hifi, the TV cables, everything.

I have bought tons of toys from soft to hard but he just refuse to play with it. We have another dog, so he got company but it doesnt seems to work..

You might ask how we know its not the other dog... we based on the chew marks... the other westie's jaws and teeth mark are much bigger and chewing has never been a problem before mocca came to us.

everyday is a "thrill" whenever we open the door. i always ask myself wht is gonna be today.

We have gave up curtains, carpets, and much more just to accommodate him but he just always managed to find something out of the ordinary to chew on

its super tiring...

Maybe you can try confining him in a exercise pen when you're out of the house? Something with a cover so he can't jump out. Have you tried working with a trainer at all? I think that a trainer might really be able to help you.

he winds and bark whole day, full 5 hrs from 1pm onward as told and complained by my 3 neighbors, so crating him is totally out.

can trainer help to stop chewing? mocca don chew anything at all other than his toy when we are around. so if he don chew the wrong stuff, how to tell him its wrong?

This sounds like Separation Anxiety and a trainer would be able to help with that. Or hire a pet sitter, put him in Doggy Daycare, or can a friend or relative doggysit for you?

I was in the same position as you are when my first Yorkie was about a year old. You have to understand that he's not doing this to get back at you. He is just frustrated and he is taking it out on whatever is near him when you're away. You can definitely fix this and keep your puppy! I am very proud to say that my Yorkie is still with me after more than six years.

No dog is untrainable.

Here's what I did:

1. No more free feeding. I am the boss, I control the food and toys.

2. No more freebies. Every single thing he wants, he has to earn. Want to go outside? Please sit first. Want to play? Please sit quietly first.

3. Clicker training. I spent a lot of money on a great course of obedience training and to my great surprise, I learned that he wasn't necessarily naughty. He was very intelligent and BORED out of his mind. Clicker training helped me to teach him tricks - to date he can roll over, play dead, high five, low five, reach for the sky (like a cowboy), shake, wave, kiss, jump, sit, lie down and we are working on getting him to lick me when my alarm sounds in the morning. Clicker training was godsend for us and with just one course, we understood each other so much better. And we had a great communication tool that I still use to this day.

4. A walk a day. Having a dog means taking him for walks and just because Yorkies are small doesn't mean that they don't love going for walks. We do at least three walks a week of about an hour long. I love it and the dogs love it. Win-win situation. Plus, it's good for everyone's health.

5. Designated chew toys. Hooves and kongs filled with yummy snacks like frozen peanut butter keeps them busy for hours! Complicated whole raw meals will do the same. If you give him something to chew, he will stop chewing everything else. Whenever you catch him chewing something he shouldn't, simply take it away and hand him the chew toy. He'll catch on quickly.

It doesn't have to be this way. You can change his behaviour to make him into a dog that you can live with. Give him a second chance and work with him. He deserves it.

My moms boxer used to do that. It turned out it was separation anxiety. They got help and he is a different dog now.

I think you have outlined great suggestions and I hope the OP tries these things whole heartily and give it more time before getting rid of this little guy.

yes we are giving him chance. just spite of angry made me wrote that we are giving up.

before anyone come in with sentences again eg. luckh its not a human or such, please do not judge as u do not know us u do not know how many lifestyle and things we sacrifice for mocca.

we used to love curtains and carpets and we roped in ID to customized all our windows curtains and carpets from middle east. due to mocca habit, we took down all these indulgence.

Mocca sleeps with us and goes everywhere we go, if possible. he was never short of love from us and we tried to go to the beach with him every fortnightly.

it is not a impulsive buy as I had 3 dogs before and currently we have 2 dogs. Mocca is the latter one.

Mocca has tons of toys to play with.. I might not be rich but i am not exasperating if i say i spend an average of US$80 per month just to buy toys for Mocca as he has sharp tooth. his toys never last more than 2 days.

based on, in $ terms, what mocca has chewed over the last 8 mths, most would have killed their dogs...we expected toothing issues but this was like.... overwhelming

We are tired because of the stress we are facing both at work and when we open the door to see our new apartment being torn to pcs. still we are working hard just now to figure out wht is wrong.

We have decided to bring him to the vet to check if his gums are giving him any irritation before heading to any trainers.

good luck to all of us.

thank you all for the good advises and encouragements. hope to update soon.

Have you thought about a doggie daycare or having someone care or check in on him while you are gone. He sounds like he has anxiety when you are gone. Yorkies love and need to be around people. Just another option that you might try. Maybe one of those "neighbors" could come and play with him!
