| Hello from a new yorkie mom! Hello! I got little Riley three weeks ago (she's now 17 weeks!) We crate her overnight around 8 hours without an accident and no barking! I've actually never heard her bark! We are training her to go outdoors. I take her out about every hour or so of course we've had the occasional accident. We have plenty of toys for her to play with (I think she has more toys than I did as a child!) She loves to play fetch but I'd like for her to play more on her own; she has about a 10 second attention span haha! Also any suggestions on how to have her sleep on her own doggy bed after playtime instead of wanting to be held? |

| Welcome to YT!! Riley sounds like a smart and active puppy. Both great things! I'm not good with suggestions on getting them to use a dog bed because I'm the sucker that always wants my dogs in bed with me lol I'm sure others can offer suggestions, though. Would love to see pics of Riley when you get a chance. You'll learn around here...we are all about pictures! hehe

| Good luck on that one. My yorkie owns me and I pretty much do what she wants me to do. I just recently gave up my side of the bed because she decided she want it. I think most of on here are pretty much bow to their whims. Seriously speaking. You have to establish who is the pack leader. Pick one word that you want her to obey for her doggy bed and with treats and persistence, she will go to her doggy bed whenever you want her too. Place her in the doggy bed while saying the command, give her a treat. Pretty soon, everytime you say that word, she should go to her bed. Be patient, it may take her time to catch on. Sort of like the potty command. When I want Brandi to go potty I say "potty" and most of the time she will go potty. Last edited by yavenay; 02-02-2013 at 06:45 PM. |

| It seems that there a lot of knowledgeable owners on here! I'm anxious to see what all I can learn. She is a great dog! Im waiting for the day that she learns that she can bark. I've never heard of someone have a dog for three weeks and they still haven't heard them bark! My name is Kim by the way! Nice to meet you all! How do you upload pictures? |

| Yorkies tend to be lap dogs. They are very social and like to be with their people. The only way I can think of to try to have your dog be less dependent on you would be to get another pup for her to bond with. Dogs are not independent like a cat is. They have an inborn pack mentality and they think of their humans as their pack or family. My cats use the dog beds in my home. |

| Do you let her sleep the whole time in your arms or as soon as she's sleep, you put her in her bed? I would use treats to get her to think the bed is a whole lot more fun they being held by you (yea right). Otherwise tough love, put her in the bed anyway and don't give in. Welcome and good luck!

Yorkie Talker | Sounds like the usual puppy! i dont crate my yorkie, but i did make him a handmade little doggy pillow, and i just put it in the living room, and when he gets tired in the day he will go curl up on it! Also he likes to sleep on things that smell like me, like sweaters, blankets andsuch, maybe put an old t shirt or blanket or small pillow you have slept on in there will help!!!! just a thought |
