| My 9 month old Yorkie lost his dew claw today when he was playing... Should I take him to the vet? It came off quite cleanly, and it was bleeding only a tiny bit. It stopped bleeding really quick. Is this a cause for concern? I must add though, he keeps licking that spot now. |

| I would call and see what the vet says because I would worry about infection and that it might be causing him pain.

| Front or back declaw? Front are actually attached to a bone. Back ones are usually dangly like skin tags. I would still take him to the vet and make sure he won't need sutures. |

| Has to be hurting like heck - there is a big nerve in there! Please take him to the vet and get him something for the pain and be sure the site of the amputation is cleaned and tidied, a stitch or two if necessary.

| Dogs often hide all but sudden or acute pain, such as right when an injury occurs and then after that will do their very best to mask their pain. In the wild, an obviously injured or hurting(weakened) dog can become the object of an attack so they do their best to hide such a condition.

| Momo tore off his dew claw while playing w/a ball under the couch & it must've gotten snagged...he bled a lot. I cleaned it & bandaged him up & took him to the vet. Clean the wounded area w/hydrogen peroxide, the one in the brown bottle, it doesn't sting. It's probably best to just pour it on the wound. (Don't let him lick the hydrogen peroxide, it's used to induce vomiting.) Bandage it up so he can't lick it, licking it can make the wound bigger or infect it. BTW, he's licking bc it hurts & there's probably some blood on his hair. Take him to the vet 1st thing in the morning if you didn't take him in already. Vet needs to see it & check if there's no broken bones, some dogs have tiny bones in the dew claw area. Hope he'll feel better soon!

| Not all breeders remove them some believe they are necessary and some don't.

| Callie ripped part of her dew claw nail off and I could see the exposed nerve and vein and she had to go to the vet and be sedated and have it cut back. She did not bleed a lot but it still required vet care.
