| Solid Gold Wee Bit Pink-General question food mishap So I feed my dogs are BARF diet (bones and raw foods). We do supplement a bit of kibble for a few reasons, Easy vitamin k source In case emergency they will eat kibble Anyways we've switched from TOTW to Fromm kibble I sent Derik to the store to get a small bag as we were low... So he says they have a small dog version in pink he found at the co-op... My red flags go up he was supposed to get it at the pet boutique, its a purple/blue bag not pink... Anyways he bought Solid Gold brand kibble in Wee Bit all life stages version...a pretty foily pink bag with what looks like a westie on it. HOLY WOW!!! The kibble is the size of fish food (not really) anyways I put a few many since its so small on the vegi paste on a Stella & Chewy's dehydrated pattie... They LOVE it. Surely this must not be the best food? Can't be bad if our co-op sells it though either. I am not really impressed with the order of or the ingredients; however, it's not 'bad' so they're eating it...they're begging for more and actually picking it off eating it first looking up with big eyes &wagging tails. Seriously the kibble is usually ignored by my dogs-this is semi-amazing. Anyone feed Solid Gold (wee bit version in the pink bag) or heard of it, tried it, any random advice on this one?

| I haven't used it personally but when I bought my Samoyed the breeder swore by the solid gold brand...that was about 10 years ago...have you checked it out on the dogfood advisor site?

| From their website: Description Diet specially formulated for the high energy needs of small breed dogs, or those dogs that will be 20 pounds or less as adults. Just a Wee Bit is available in a very small kibble to accommodate small mouths. Just a Wee Bit exceeds all the nutrient requirements for puppies and is great for puppies and adults! Crude Protein, Min 28% Crude Fat, Min 18% Crude Fiber, Max 4% Moisture, Max 10% 380 kcal/cup Ingredients Bison, Ocean Fish Meal, Millet, Brown Rice, Cracked Pearled Barley, Rice Bran, Canola Oil, Tomato Pomace, Flaxseed, Natural Flavor, Salmon Oil (source of DHA), Choline Chloride, Taurine, Dried Chicory Root, Parsley Flakes, Pumpkin Meal, Almond Oil, Sesame Oil, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Thyme, Blueberries, Cranberries, Carrots, Broccoli, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Calcium Panthothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin), Riboflavin, Vitamin D Supplement, Folic Acid ******************* I tried to feed mine the Barking At The Moon a few years ago and they wouldn't even taste it... I was quite shocked, lol. As for this new flavor, There are a few items I have a problem with. First, the minimum % values of the protein and the fat content are high (JMHO) as stated on the bag.... remember those are the Minimum values. Second, the second ingredient is Ocean Fish Meal. Any fish caught on US ships is preserved with Ethoxyquin, by law. JMHO: Feed at your own risk. Canola oil is a by-product of the gasoline industry. There are better choices. And I'm curious to know exactly what the 'natural flavor' is...

| Once upon a time, I owned two cocker spaniels. I tried Solid Gold with them for a while and it was a good quality food. I stopped feeding it because one of my cockers had allergies and kept itching.

| That seems like a lot of grain to me. I always back away when I see that many synthetic vitamins on an ingredient list. If the food is nutritious why add all those vitamins? I have read that many of these vitamins are outsourced to China to be manufactured. |

| Bison flavor is the protein. What association do you link canola with petroloum production?

2. It is genetically modified to produce a plant with lower levels of erucic acid (a known toxin) considered safe for human consumption, considered 'generally recognized as safe per the FDA' and we all know how dependable the FDA is. Personally, I prefer oils that contain no toxins. Canola - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| I see canola oil is like margarine. I was just reading a big debate about it on my food forum last night.

| it's not a good idea to mix kibble and barf because your dogs system processes them both at different rates and it can lead to bloat. if it's vitamins and minerals you want for them they should be in a well balanced barf diet. Otherwise I'd try adding raw or canned tripe, krill, fish oil or coconut oil a probiotic and digestive enzyme. Is it okay to ask why you feel the need to combine the raw and kibble |

| I just happen to know something about Solid Gold and the owner, Sissy Mcgill (Sp?). My parents bought food from her - out of her garage - back in the 70's. She bred Great Danes and she believed in wholesome and holistic foods even back then. I have fed her Wee Bits to my Zoey but went back to raw and that's what I use. Her products are good.
