| Search for pup Hi everyone. I'm new to this site. I really like it because there's so much I've learned from so many knowledgeable people and I admire the passion that everyone has for their yorkies. I don't have a yorkie yet so I was wondering if anyone can recommend any breeders (besides the YTCA) in the NJ area. I'm definitely willing to travel if I have to. I've been wanting to get a yorkie for a while now, so after a year of researching the breed, I finally feel like I'm ready...lol. |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Hello and welcome...being owned by a yorkie, (in my case three) is the best...you will love it here. Take your time and buy your breeder first...when there is someone you are considering, post here, there are many knowledgable people here that can give you a review. Happy hunting and again welcome!

| First of all, welcome! And I agree with the others...find a good, reputable breeder. I didn't know of this site when I went out and found my Jack, but so glad that I stumbled upon it shortly after I brought him home. He was probably born in a puppy mill from what I can gather. We also have little Izzy, we got her from a breeder who is located in Michigan. I will never purchase a dog from a store/broker again. The differences between the two of them are quite remarkable. Jack is very shy, quiet, protective and doesn't give kisses - Izzy is very friendly, outgoing, playful and full of kisses! Such a difference. I absolutely love the breeder we got Izzy from. Good luck in your search!

| Why don't you want to look at breeders that are part of the YTCA?

| I'm thinking that she already knows to check out the YTCA because it is always mentioned when someone asks about breeders. My guess is she'd like first hand knowledge if specific breeders. Anyway, hi and welcome to YT! |

| I have already heard of the YCTA and they are definitely being considered. I just wanted to find out about breeders that a member used in or around my area. I know the YCTA is a good place to find a breeder, but I'm still a little nervous. I guess I was hoping to find someone with firsthand knowledge of a reputable breeder in my area. |

| I don't know any breeders in your area but I know some things a good breeder will do. They do genetic and health testing on the breeders, the don't allow the pups to go home until 12 weeks or older, they know the lines of there breeding dogs to know there is no big health issues in the lines, they wont breed females under 5 pounds, they don't keep there dogs in out buildings/they are raised inside with human interaction, they don't breed many different breeds, the don't have lots of litters of puppies at one time, they don't breed mixes, they have a health guarantee, a spay and neuter contract and they don't use the words teacup and micro. Also its very important to see the parents and where the pups are being raised. You never want to buy a puppy from some one who wants to meet you at like a walmart. The only good registry that means anything in the USA is AKC.
