| 1 1/2 year old and 10 week old puppy play... What should I allow, stop or be worried? I am starting to wonder at what point should I step in... Stella the 10 week old is the starter I have watched closely to make sure I am right before I said this... But she will walk up either smack him in the face with a paw or if he tries to lick her she will bite for his lip or tongue... At one point she was latched on to his beard as he is dragging her around for a good 5 min's because she was NOT letting go lol but they play like this NONSTOP rolling around biting growling and talking... I know it is play and not mean aggression but I also do not want her to grow up being mean and not a lovable puppy... So any advice??

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Alisha I have three...Jersey the seven month old pup is always the starter...I just let them go at it...however Orion tends to get overly aggressive, so at that point I separate them to give them a chance to cool off so to speak. Raelle the oldest at almost 2 (March) will put a stop to her shenanigans quick time! She will take only so much, then Jersey will get a warning from the Diva....If she doesn't take the warning seriously, She will then issue a warning snap, that usually stops Jersey in her tracks! Its pretty funny to watch this 6lb yorkie put the larger dogs in their place! Orion at 15lbs backs right off...not Jersey, she has to keep going until Raelle gets pizzed and snaps at her!

| Does he tell her to stop if it seems rough? Like will he growl at her or anything?

| Kyra did this with Laddy and we would correct him if we thought he was to rough, finally one day he nipped her back and she quit treating him so rough. As long as he is not attacking let him correct her.

| No attacking or anything and we watch closely.. I am just so worried that this will turn her into this mean vicious little puppy instead of my sweet little girl haha

| Hey Alisha- My Ruby did that to Rosie also...and sometimes still does. I've for the most part not intervened as I have kinda gone with the idea as long as the older dog is healthy and well balanced who better to teach Ruby what is acceptable and what isn't, then another dog. SOMETIMES Ruby just wont quit and I can tell Rosie is extremely annoyed...that's when I intervene and redirect both of their attentions to something else...ie I might start throwing a toy for Ruby to fetch while giving lovings to Rosie. I don't know if that's right or wrong but for the most part Ruby loves to play a little rough n turf but in a gentle way with rosie and listens when rosie says enough so I figure it can't be too wrong. Plus Ruby is a sweetheart when playing w people...ie no hard biting but will play tug a war etc...actually she doesn't play bite at all anymore with people the more I think about it

| I would just let him tell her when to stop. As far as biting you I am a big fan of the water bottle it worked great for Callie she would nip and just no didn't work so we would squirt her and say no and it worked great.

| When I brought home my second dog, he was 8 months, but still very much an annoying puppy to his older brother. Following advice from fellow YT members, I let them go at it unless it seemed dangerous. Then I would raise my voice with a big, "Nooooo!" I also gave gentler direction with, "Play nice" and "no bite." Make sure Guinness has his own place to escape Stella when he wants. For my older boy, Max, his escape was the couch, which Teddy wasn't big enough to jump onto. We have met a lot of little puppies who always want to swat at my boys' faces and jump on their heads. My guys will lean in and give the little one a growl. This usually freaks out the puppies' people, but it is a natural correction.

| I started with a lab and yorkie..lol Carley thought he was a cute little toy that played back but I knew sometimes he could be rough with his teeth so when I felt like they were playing too rough I separated them. Carley would go to her crate and Joey to his, just to be fair. Now, with my MILs dog, hes about 5 months younger than Joey and they play all the time, but Odie cant get onto the couch so when Joey has enough he just jumps up to get away LOL. About the human bites, I stopped that with a quickness. I would say "OUCH! No biting" and then point my finger toward their nose. If they did it again, then I would tap their nose. It worked for both Carley and Joey.

YT 1000 Club Member | My Male Sneakers (4yo) and Female Becca (2yo) were adults, when I got My Male Puppy Ichabod. Ickey is a very aggressive male, and a super candidate for the Alpha roll, when Sneakers decides to let him have it. That will happen at some point as Sneakers becomes old. But, given Ickey's aggressiveness, Sneakers had to put a stop to Ickey's peskiness, biting playing, and trying to "top" both of them, by putting his paws up on their backs. Sneakers has "nipped" Ickey rather hard from time to time, and I do NOT intervene with that disciplinary action. Ickey now gives Sneakers a wide birth, limiting his contact with Sneakers, to playful rubs and sharing the food. Ickey has accepted Sneakers as his Alpha and Teacher. My Female Becca is a different story... Ickey sees her as his Play Mate, constantly nipping and topping her, and she takes it "to a point". When she gets enough of his playfulness, she has nipped him firmly, and again, I do not intervene. I will however, when Ickey gets too rough and Becca nips him, pet and praise Becca, while ignoring Ickey. Occasionally, I will literally "growl" at Ickey as I reach over and touch him, to relate my objection to his activities. He is VERY effected by that, pulling back and usually sitting quietly away from the Pack for several minutes, without taking his eyes off of me for an instant. That/my "growl", effects the whole Pack... I have to make sure that the others see and understand WHO that is directed toward, and reach out and pet Sneakers and Becca, to let them know I'm not growling at them. It's a little extra trouble, but it works like a charm !
