Yorkie Talker | Male or Female? Hello Yorkie Lovers , I just wanted to ask for some feedback on male and female Yorkies. As a few of you may know, I do not have one, but am in the process of researching what exactly I would like but now the topic of gender has come up. Any feedback on the temperament, behaviour, needs or challenges of either gender or if it really makes a difference? Ive read in a few places that gender should NOT make a difference in price, is this true? Thanks for your help, I look forward to and really appreciate your feedback!

| I think gender does not make any difference, especially if you want pup as PET only. If you want to get into serious breeding, then you can think of getting a female from a reputable breeder. You have to find the right breeder first. Females are priced more than males, but I could not find any valid explanation for this. May be this is the way they prefer I have male Yorkie, although he came from a back yard breeder, he has a good temperament. I am in process of getting a Biewer baby (male) from one of the reputed breeder. There are many knowledgeable people here who will be able to give you more advice. But please try finding the right breeder. Do NOT fall for back yard breeders or pet stores or puppy mills. I saw that you are from Surrey, is it Surrey BC or Surrey UK!!

| I think female Yorkies tend to be priced higher, if I recall correctly when I was looking for a puppy. Neutering is less expensive than spaying too. As for the rest, it is up to the individual pup. There is a wide range of experience here with both females and males. Our breeder told us that her males tend to be more affectionate (and my boys are very lovey), but there are many people here with affectionate girls too. You can't go wrong with either sex.

| With terriers, both sexes usually have lots of spunk and attitude though are the best of the lap dogs too. Some people really fear the tendency that some males, even neutered ones, might have to "marking" & I count myself among them. I cannot abide the smell of pee in the house so in 2008 when I came home with a 9 mo. old male, I was terrified at what I might have gotten myself into. But Tibbe was neutered a bit later and has never once marked in this house and, once he got his housebreaking training done, is completely clean in the house. He's had 2 or 3 "accidents" pooping when he was ill and that's it and he's 5 1/2 years old now. So, to me, with what I know now, I would say the gender really makes very little difference enough that I can discern. I think the differences are more the dog's own temperament than gender once neuter/spaying have taken place. Good luck with your search.

| I really think it's a matter of opinion. All Yorkies have their own personalities and temperaments. So when picking a gender, it's owner specific. Either way, it's a great pet! |

| I have never owned a male but I adore my females. I have two females and wouldn't trade them for anything!! Rosie is lovey on HER terms. Lol. Mikki wants to be held like a baby. So I agree, I think each individual pup has their own unique personality. But I will say, it sure is a lot of fun buying dresses for girls!! And hair bows!!

| So true!! It seems that yorkies either love everyone, or they bond really hard with that one special person. I don't think the sex makes a difference as far as temperament goes. Although I've heard females as they get older can be a bit moodier(?). I haven't seen that personally. Can be true of humans, tho.

| I'm not sure on advice but girls & spaying = more money!

| I've heard girls ind with their daddies and boys are all about their mommies. As far as I can tell, it's somewhat true. Kaji is all about me. He has to be with me AT ALL TIMES. Sleeping in my arms, on my lap, etc. Girls are more independent and less needy. Yes they want love and cuddles on their terms. My friend is jealous of all the cuddle time I get. Likewise, sometimes I'd like some privacy. I had to draw the line when Kaji decided he NEEDED to be in my lap when I was in the restroom. Um... no. Sorry furry baby, that just doesn't work for me.

| I have a boy and he loves me and his daddy to pieces. I want to add a girl later this yr. I cant really tell the difference between him and Carley (my lab) they both are very affectionate and great family pets. My biggest worry was that he would be mean to her. Shes a rescue and is certainly not an alpha, but I made sure that they got along and things are wonderful

| There was just a poll on this not too long ago... I, personally, love and adore my males and wouldn't trade them for anything. The ONLY time I ever wish that I had a female dog is when I see the SUPER cute dresses out there. LOL!
