| Looking for a new baby to love! Hi Everyone! I wanted to introduce myself to this forum because we need your help and support if you can give it. We recently had a mini Schnauzer (Gretel) that passed from cancer. We still have her brother (Hansel) and had talked about adopting a Yorkie when we had one of the dogs pass away. The day before yesterday I talked with a local breeder about adopting one of her Yorkies as a "rescue" as she is breeding dogs in her home. I was recommended to do this from our local groomer and warned to NOT offer her any money. After much conversation, this breeder sent me home with one of her female Yorkies and we were just delighted to have her. The breeder showed up the next day to "see" the pet, unannounced, which raised my antenna. This morning she showed up again in tears saying that she wanted the dog back, she has had this Yorkie for five years and is her pet. Well you can imagine how we felt. I originally went into her house to pick up a Yorkie and am aware that she is way over her head breeding puppies. The house stunk to high heaven and so I felt we were truly rescuing Sophie from a bad situation. When we got Sophie home, I made a general assessment of her health. She has one eye that bulges and needs surgery, she is completely out of date on her inoculations, her nails haven't been trimmed for over a year (she lost one while in our care), and she is undernourished because she has rotton teeth and doe not want the food I was sent home with. Now please don't kill us for sending her back as we were well prepared to give her whatever medical care she needs. We live in a very small town and even though she probably would have not harassed us for not giving her back, other people in the community would have. We did not want to give Sophie back to this woman because we know she will not be taken care of. The breeder called the police. The police contacted us by phone to inquire about the issue. I explained all the medical issues that this dog had and that it was due to neglect. I also expressed my concern about the condition of this woman's home and the fact that she has a Yorkie about to have puppies and no idea who she will sell them to. I call this irresponsible breeding and believe she is running a puppy mill out of her house. The police are contacting animal control to look into her situation and possible neglect. The police contacted me again to tell us we had no obligation to return the dog to the breeder. It is not an issue for police however she could take us to civil court. Well, after talking it over with my husband we decided the cons over rulled the pros in this situation. So we decided to give Sophie back. I deeply regret it as I believe this dog will be dead in a year. I'm just sick about it. Please forgive me but in a small town, life can get pretty miserable, especially when you aren't a "local". What I would like to know is if anyone knows of a Yorkie female (we will spay) that they would be willing to part with in Illinois? If anyone has any information, we would very much appreciate it. |

| Take your time and find a good breeder. Remember a good breeder can have cute puppies and a bad breeder can have cute puppies so might as well look for the good breeder rather than the cute pup

| Welcome t YT. So sorry about little Sophie . Have you checked with local yorkie rescues in your state? Also there is a place here on YT where people sometimes place rescues.

| Never mind about the getting a Yorkie thing...with all due respect I think your priority here should be reporting this person to local animal authorities, dog warden SPCA....as an animal lover and someone who should be concerned with their welfare, I think you have a responsibility to report this. IMHO. OK I see where you did!! Please make sure you follow through and see that this is dealt with.

| Oh and I am very sorry about the loss of your pup, I hope you find the right rescue and or breeder to work with. I find it truly inspiring that you were willing to take the pup, flaws and all...you are ideally what a rescue hopes to find!

| Response from original writer. Thank you to everyone! This has been really hard on my and my husband as we know Sophie may not have a chance. She has such a sweet temperment. Well, what's done is done! We are looking for a reputable breeder in search for our next forever friend! I am thrilled to find this website. I'm sure I'll be posting sometime in the near future!! |

| I'm SO sorry to hear about your baby... I hope that you can find your new baby soon. What an awful situation. Believe it or not, but a very dear friend of mine lives in Clinton. I couldn't believe I saw your location right...lol. I understand where you're coming from first-hand. Are you able to travel? If so, and you want a puppy, I would recommend going here. | I'm sorry for the roller coaster you went on and I'm glad that this lady is being reported to animal control. I hope they take care of it. Considering that you were willing to rescue an adult, I would really like to suggest looking into some Yorkie rescues in your state or neighboring states. You sound like the ideal candidate to give a sweet yorkie it's loving furever home.

| Yes, please do! Also, there are a lot of Yorkie rescues out there. I've seen a few with babies in Illinois if you're interested in rescuing over a breeder.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | If the law gets involved maybe you can get this dog back. If they do go into her home and take the dogs or at least some of them you should beable to adopt one or her back.. It does not sound health for her or the dogs in this home

| Response from original writer. We are very much interested in a rescue over a breeder however we are realistic and we are interested in a certain size and it being a full Yorkie. Thanks for your interest. |

| I'm so glad you reported the breeder. Please, don't stop reporting! Do it to save Sophie. If I were in your state, I'd call and report her too! It sounds like she isn't doing the right thing for her pups. And for you to try and help out by taking Sophie to get care for her... that's awesome! Keep trying to get the pups some help. If 1 was in that condition, there has to be more! Thanks for doing all you've done already!
