Hello! Welcome to YT :) Congratulations on your new puppy. Love the name Buttons! |
Welcome to YT, Crystal and Buttons! I'm glad you found us too. Ask any questions you have ok? Buttons is super young to be away from his mama dog. Has he had a vet visit yet? If not, please do that asap. He will need special food and he is high risk for hypoglycemia. Keep some puppy nutrical on hand (or Karo syrup in a pinch) always. He needs to never be left alone at this age because he needs frequent feedings. We are all here to help you get thru this early time - so please please ask any questions you have! :) |
She is really young compared to when I thought I'd get her but the breeder has kept in contact with me and two days after Christmas she said button was eating really good on her own and the mother was no longer feeding the litter so I could take her home. ??? She seems to be doing really well and she follows everyone in my family around. =] I did not know I should be giving her anything because she is so young still. She eats bill jack food and eats it well. I am actually at the pet store now so by all means please tell me what I need. Lol Also being that she is so little is there a certain brush or comb that might work well? I have one but it seems soo big. Btw I have not taken her to the vet but she is scheduled to go this coming week as she will be 8 weeks old. Thank you |
Welcome to you and Buttons! That is such a cute name!:aimeeyork |
Hello and Welcome! |
Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk. Yorkies should not leave there moms until 12 weeks and all good breeds know that so I would make sure to get your pup checked out very good by your vet. I also would be prepare for possible biting issues, social issues and potty training issues these are all things there mom teaches them up to 12 weeks. I also would make sure to get pet insurance or set aside a certain amount of money into an account every month for vets cost. A lot of pups who come from bad breeders can end up with genetic issues or other health problems. Also this pup is way to young to be left alone and if the pup needs to be left alone it should not be for more then an hour because the younger the pup and the smaller the pup the higher the risk of hypoglycemia and if they have a hypoglycemia episode when no one is there to see it and help the pup they can have seizures and then it can result in death. Please make sure you have nutrical and feed the puppy every couple of hours. Also make sure the pup is not being over handled and keep it warm. |
Welcome to YT to you and Buttons |
Welcome to yorkietalk!! This is the perfect place to go to meet other yorkie owners, share stories/pictures of your pup, ask questions, and so on! Buttons is a very adorable name. Would love to see some pictures ^-^ Congrats on the new puppy! |
Lovetodream88, biting issues?? I do believe she is teething but I'm not sure what you might be talking about. I do have a 2 year old so I'd love to know more. =] although I will say she is a very smart dog already. I haven't had any potty issues. She already goes outside to potty and has only had one accident in the house. She sleeps in a crate next to my bed and she does cry a lot still I hope that will subside soon. I was told it was because its a new house and she was the fist to leave her litter mates so the crying might be a little long than usual?? Is is akc registered and I have her paperwork. She does have a vet check this week because she'll be 8 weeks and I plan to have her micro chipped and her rabies etc done. How soon do you have you Yorkie groomed? Her nails are a little long and get stuck on blankets, clothes, etc. from time to time. Also I would love to see pics of anyone's yorkies! =] I am a big fan and I am forever grateful to my husband for buying me my Yorkie! I have wanted one for about 8 years now and I have been blessed in 2012!! Again I am learning how to put pics up still. I plan on adding more as I've already got a bunch of her. Can you see any pictures I put up?? |
Hello, Welcome to YT. You will meet wonderful people here :). And please upload some pics of your baby. |

When you take her to the vet, just let him/her go over the shots still needed and what food would be best. Again, I would definitely keep nutrical on hand (if not, some karo syrup). Look up signs of hypoglycemia in a puppy so you will know what to watch for and if you see an issue, then give Buttons some nutrical or karo and get him to a vet. They can go down very very quickly when so small. Not trying to scare you - just inform so you'll know what to look for  At Buttons' age, all brushes and combs will look huge LOL. Try a small metal pin brush - there is a member here who sells some of the best (Madan) at toplinepet.com She has combs there, too - you can just use a small flea comb for the face (this is what I do). |
Afternoon, Nice to meet you and Button~ |

Hello to you and Buttons! When you figure out how to post pictures let me know because I can't do it either. Ha ha! Nutrical is definitely something you should have on hand. From past experience I don't think I would change his food for a little while because he may stop eating all together. When you do switch, do it gradually or you'll have some tummy issues. My new pups came home at 12 weeks eating Royal Canin mini starter. I kept them on it for a couple of weeks then gradually switched to Royal Canin puppy and haven't had any issues. I also free feed them. |
