Yorkie Talker | Please help.... i got an early christmas present.. Yes, his name is Silas "SI" for short.. He is precious and was doing well with his pads however, he has somehow got messed up and I donnot know what to do.. He was actually using his pads well.. Now he doesnt and he is peeing in his crate.. I am going to try to sention off his petmate crate in hopes this will eliminate doing this.,. He seems super smart however, he is just not doing as well as he was.. I remind myself he is just 8 weeks old and can not be expected to know it all I just dont understand the going backwards... I place him on his pad and say Go potty.. He gets off his pad or lays down I then pick him up and place him back on the pad with the same command we do this for 30 minutes or so.. Maybe that is the problem.. He also has a beautiful odd color.. He is coal black and his tan is more copper and more of a brown color than a tan..any ideas on what his color will turn out.. I will post pics as soon as I can thanks for all your help...

| WELCOME! Yorkie puppies are mostly black with some tan bits. As they age they change color. 8 weeks is too young to be definitely potty trained. Generally you just need to be consistent, but you can't expect an immature bladder/sphincter to be able to control itself. Be patient and give it some more time and maturity. I'm sure others will have suggestions for you once they see your post. We love pictures!

| I agree, he is too young to be expected to be potty trained. Generally puppies should stay with their mommies till 12 wks, but whats done is done. Be patient & consistent with him & when he potties where you want him to, tell him good boy go potty while he's in the act of going. Also, an x-pen is a great idea & you can put his food & water, bed and potty pads in it when you can't be there to watch him like a hawk. Good luck & congratulations on your new family member. Oh & 1 more thing, he should be eating every couple of hours & it's always a good idea to have some Nutrical on hand just incase he experiences hypoglycemia & NO collars only a harness to protect his tiny trachea & Do Not take him outside of your home or fenced yard till he's FULLY vaccinated. |

Yorkie Talker | Thanks I appreciate it.. I knew it was to early to be broken, but he was doing so well, and then just like that he regressed instead of doing better.. I tried giving him a atreat the other day after peeing and it would not eat it.. We will see I will get a pic as soon as I can thanks again

| Awww...congratulations! If that's him in your avatar, he's a doll. He'll change colors for a while, but you'll have to wait to see what his final colors will be. It's a Yorkie surprise! Eight (8) weeks is really young...too young to worry that he's not potty trained or worry about him 'slipping' on one component of growing up while he's learning so many others, too. Just hang in there and be patient and consistent with him. He'll get there...and you are just going to love that little one.

| Your puppy has no ability to keep from peeing at his age. The muscle that helps them to control their urine output does not start to work until they are around 16 weeks old and that is just the beginning of their stating to gain control. It is up to you to figure out the timing and get him to the potty in time. A puppy that is crated will pee in the crate if he has to go. He has no choice. Once he has learned to pee in the crate he will also learn it is OK to do it. To properly crate train you have got to take the pup out at regular intervals and get him to the potty. If you cannot take him out that often you may want to consider an X-pen instead. That way he can use a puppy pad and a regular bed. The pad should be put in a secure frame so the puppy does not spend time chewing on it. Small breed puppies have especially small bladders so they cannot hold much urine to begin with. |

| Congrats on your little SI! So cute! As others have said, move away from crating just now and get an xpen. Put a pad down in that and this will help him not pee where he lays. It really is the best answer to your situation and SI's age.
