| Need help! Need to find petsitter I've lost my petsitter. I'm gone at work approximately 10.5 hours a day 3 days a week, and 9.5 hours two days a week. Fortunately, on those two days a week I work close enough to home to run home at lunch and let the dogs out. Does anyone know how to find a petsitting service or something? Or what do people do, that don't have any relatives or friends living close to them, who can watch their dogs during the day, when they're working. I have to work a few more years, then I can retire and be with my Yorkie and my other dog all day, every day. But for now, I need someone to watch them during at least 3 days a week. Does anyone have any ideas on how to address this problem? Thank you for your help. I'm really in dire need of help this time!!! I don't want to lose my little Yorkie. He's so attached to me and vice versa. I love him like crazy, as most of you love your little Yorkies! Thanks again |

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Can you look on the Internet and see if there is a service in your area.. I know some bigger cities offer that kind of thing. Otherwise maybe ask your vet if he knows of someone that offers that service

| Petsitting... Thank you very much - I live near, and work in a big city, so should be able to find something. Those are good ideas. |

| I realise it's different here - but I actually placed an ad on the board that our Vet's office has. I also placed an ad in our local paper, making sure I took up 3 references for the people that applied - going to those homes in person. I also placed an ad on Gumtree (Surrey) and again took up references in person for the referrals. I really wish you luck - I know how important it is to you and your Littlie Sally + Harry x |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | How old are your dogs? Do you want someone to be with them every moment or someone to just drop in and check up on them and take them for a walk? I think I would talk to my local high school principal or guidance counselor and see if I could find an reliable teenager. If your dogs are no longer puppies, and since you have more than one, I'm not sure you need a person at home as long long you can let them out half way through the day, or allow them to use pee pads.

| Do your pups use pads? I have found that on those days when I am going to be 10+ hours....I am grateful for peepads! Honestly, the dogs have eachother and as long as there are no real issues and you leave adequate water they should be ok till you get home. I know some will disagree but I can honestly say, I have done been there and they are no worse for wear when I get home. So until you find someone to check in on them...don't worry too much.... also, if you go to church you might find someone in the woman's group or pin it on the bulletin board there..

| In 1999, when my husband and I first moved here, I was still a stay at home mom, but I got bored when the kids were in school. So for 6 months, I worked for a service that walked dogs. This service did exactly what you are looking for. I had a key to the house and went at a certain time on the days the family wanted and walked their dog. It was a lot of fun, but I am a huge dog lover, so I was really concerned that the dog got lots of lovin' and exercise while I was there. I think you could find someone like that, but I would recommend interviewing them (and the actual person that will come to your house) because that kind of job could also attract less than desirable people, kind of like babysitting - some people do it because they really love children and others are just lazy or shady. I think you can pay for the time you want. Most people just paid for 1/2 an hour. I'd walk them, make sure they peed (and pooped, if possible), played with them, gave them treats or fed them, then put them back in the house. Whatever the owner's instructions were. Some were puppies and were still kept in crates. The only scare I ever had was once when a young, energetic dog "backed out" of his collar on a busy road. I had to get creative quick as he was running away and used the fur collar on my winter coat to get his attention and make him think I had a toy. He came running back to get it and I grabbed the scruff of his neck and put his collar back on. My Columbo only wears a harness and I would recommend that you have a snug one on your pup if you hire a service. You can find these services in the phone book or by word of mouth. If you don't totally trust your dog with potty training yet, I would recommend an x-pen for him to be in the rest of the day. That way, he doesn't have the run of the house, but he has room to move around, play with toys, get a drink, or take a nap. A baby gate in the kitchen or a room were he can't get into trouble, do any damage, or ruin the floor will also work. |

| Thanks again... To answer you all, thank you again for your input - keep those ideas coming as I'm desperate (desparate?). No, My dogs don't know how to use Pee Pads, and quite frankly, I wouldn't know how to train them to use them. And, I've got to find a solution by/for Wednesday, the day after Christmas. Thursday and Friday I could come home at lunch time and let them out real quick. I was thinking that we have some kids in the church who could really use some money, and I could talk to the pastor to see if we could find a couple of kids, perhaps college aged, who are really good kids, and could use the money. It is awfully easy money to just come over twice a day for maybe 10 minutes of work! By the way, I was asked how old they are. The Maltese is 9 1/2 and the Yorkie just turned 3 on the 18th. I could probably gate off the kitchen, so they'd be on vinyl, rather than carpet and get a couple of beds for them. I have a big back yard, so they can really stretch their legs when they do go out. I'm trying to think if there is any other information i could give you. Oh, I know, I wanted to ask, what is the best way to train them for pee pads, as that would come in handy. Thanks again for the help, and please, keep the suggestions coming. I really don't need anyone to 'sit' them. I just want them to be able to relieve themselves at least once in the middle of the day, or preferably twice around 10 am and 2 pm (but there could be quite a bit of leeway on the times, like 9:30 and 1:30 would be ok, or 9:30 and 1 pm). If anyone needs any further info, just let me know. Thanks!!! |

| Let me just add that.. I love this Yorkie so much!!! My oldest dog (also a Yorkie) passed away this summer, after having her nearly 14 years. And, I would say that out of the top 5 best things that have happened to me in my life, getting that Yorkie and getting this Yorkie are two of the best, top 5, things that have ever happened to me. I bought him in August, at the age of approximately 2.5 years, because his owner had several Yorkies, and she was (and is) having medical problems, so they decided to let two of them go. Like I said, one of the best decisions I ever made was to buy/adopt him. I'd never bought a "used" dog before, but boy, am I glad I did this time. I had to work the day after picking him up, but then I took a couple of days off of work, and I mean he just bonded with me immediately. From the time I got home after that first day of work until now, we have been best buddies!!! He's everything that I could have hoped for, and I am so blessed to have him! There's no way that I'm going to let this problem cause me to have to let him go. He loves me, and I love him immensely. I never thought I could find one that I'd love as much as my first one...but I did!!! I have to go to work Wednesday, because the other guy in I work with is off that day, or I'd have more time to address this problem. But, if I can get Wednesday covered, then I'll have more time to find someone. Maybe I'm selfish, but this little guy isn't going anywhere, as long as I'm around!!!! We're too close! It would be almost like losing a child! A child that gives you unconditional love! |

| Thank you Lynzy! Thank you Lynzy! You are soooooo right! I'll give that a try in the short term, and hopefully I can find a long term solution, until I'm able to retire in a few years! You gals/guys are great! |

| I do a lot of pet sitting. I am 22 now, and have since I was 16. Always been a huge dog lover obviously, and decided to post a listing on Babysitters, Nannies, Child Care and Senior Home Care - Care.com offering up my services. You can get background checks, etc. All my clients have always been very happy. I just go 5 days a week to let the dog(s) out, or walk them. Feed them if necessary, give them lovin', let them out to potty, play ball, etc.

| I you hire a teen or a neighbor, just make sure they are responsible and mature. Like you, my dog is a member of the family and like a child to me. You just need to make sure they keep your dog safe while you are away. If they leave the yard on walks with your dog, keep away from large dogs. They don't know what could happen and the little ones could be the ones that get hurt. Keep them on a leash whenever outside, unless you have a fenced yard. Keep the gate closed if the yard is fenced. You may have to spell it out for them how serious you are about their safety. Not everyone thinks dogs are as important as we do and many a dog has been lost while in the care of a friend or neighbor. |
