| growing yorkie hair now i have lots more free time i want to start growing bellas hair long... the idea i had was to grow it long but get underneath shaved short and let the hair grow long over so you cant see.. the reason for this is underneath is where it gets tangled the most on bella and its the most difficult bit for me to brush because she hates it! bella likes her top coat getting brushed and somtimes even falls to sleep! anyone know any goos tips into keeping it nice silky and what brishes and combs to use etc...i used the wire brushes before but they hurt even me! lol and what products work well (i am from the uk tho and some things are hard to get over here from abroad) thanx guys

| I recently saw a wooden pin brush recommended by Oscar's mom so I ordered one. I haven't received it yet, but I'm thinking it has to be easier on the skin than the metal ones. Also, I sort of do what you are talking about. Mandie's big tangle/matt issues are under her front legs. I keep her under arm area cut way down. I'm still growing her hair out and so far this has been her only trouble spot.

| I usually use a metal grooming comb on Gracie first. After she is all combed I use a pin brush to finish her off. toplinepet.com This website has some good examples of grooming combs and brushes. I use a 4.5 inch comb for her face and legs and a 6 inch comb for her body. I use the small Madan pin brush. I have heard a lot of people like the wooden pin brushes but I don't know how they would work for tangles. Using a good all natural spray conditioner works well for helping to keep the coat tangle free between baths. I have found that a weekly bath helps with tangles also. The conditioner I use when I bathe her keeps the hair nice and smooth for at least a week. After that you tend to start loosing the effect of the rinse conditioner. I don't know what kind of all natural products you have over there but I have found that staying away from regular sulfate shampoos and conditioners that dry the skin and coat really helps keep the hair more manageable. If you do a daily combing it should not take long at all since daily grooming helps keep the hair free of mats. Those fine hairs underneath do tend to twist up easily but a good spray conditioner used between baths will help keep them from matting. |

| Thank You gracielove for linking my site! It's best to keep the high rubbing areas trimmed, like the arm pits, inner thighs & lower belly. When I had Mimi in a full length coat, I shaved her under belly all the way up to her chest to keep her cool in the summer time. Colder months, I let the underside grow out to keep her warm. She doesn't tangle, so her hair was easy to grow out & I brushed her out once a week after her weekly bath. If you can get a Madan pin brush, it will be great, since you're growing out her hair. They also have very good combs. You can google it to see if there's a site in the UK selling it.

| I purchased my small Madan pin brush from Mimimomo & LOVE it. I have no idea why I waited so long to get one! I heard so many great things about, but after actually using it, I now understand why. It glides through tangles sooo easily. I also use Isle of Dogs No. 63 Detangle Conditioning Mist & the Silky Coating Brush Spray - it just depends what kind of mood I'm in. The Silky Coating Brush Spray smells delicious! I use and LOVE the Isle of Dogs Silky Coating Conditioner & the Les Poochs Pooch Bright Shampoo. The Les Poochs shampoo leaves the coat so soft! I also use the Les Poochs Tearless Puppy Shampoo on the face & under the eyes.

The Silky Coating Brush Spray definitely has a heavier scent...not perfumey, just more scent. I always get compliments on how good the pups smell when I use it. You can definitely smell it on them when you pick them up. I don't use it as often as the No.63 Mist because of that. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like they can probably smell it as well. Sometimes I feel like they might get annoyed by the fragrance...or it might interfere with their own sense of smell. But it really does smell delicious! I also use Bio-Groom Waterless Bath Shampoo on the hair around their bum or feet between baths when needed. I LOVE that stuff! That's one product I couldn't live without. It's so much better than any other "waterless shampoo" product I've tried. I also use it on the beard sometimes. But I spray it on my hand first & then I work it into the beard before drying it with a dry washcloth. I like the Bio-Groom Coat Polish too. but I only use that occasionally - when I see flyaways. Yoshi's coat can't handle it daily. It's too heavy.
