| Yorkie loves to look out the balcony window My yorkie looks out the balcony window and barks alot at people who pass by and people with dogs. Is that good or bad? I try to break him out of the intense barking because I heard that it stresses the dog out. It alos gets overwhelming for me. What are some tips if any that I can get him out of barking at people who walks by. |

| I don't have an answer for you. My sheltie mix has always done this and I've tried everything I can to stop him. My Yorkie can't get up to the window, so she doesn't do it..not sure if she would but she does everything her brother does so probably lol I did want to say that used to work up in New Carrollton, MD (2001 to 2007). I saw you lived there and wanted to say hello. I miss my friends and coworkers in that area every day.

| My Tibbe does this and I just let him unless he just goes on and on and then I tell him "Quiet". But I let him be a dog and bark a lot, pretty much all he wants as I don't live in an apartment. But I taught him to both bark and then be quiet on command so I'd have control when I'm home. When I'm not, I don't imagine he goes on and on barking though as he's not an obsessive or compulsive barker.

| I specifically arrange my furniture...not for aesthetics nor for positive feng shui, but so ZoE can see out the windows She loves to watch the outside world & "guard" her home...from squirrels, birds, the guy across the street mowing his lawn, the neighbour taking out the garbage, and people walking by. And when someone actually pulls in the driveway, she makes a mad dash to the window that overlooks the driveway & greest them with extra-loud barks. I'm always telling her what a good job she's doing guarding her home.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's the same way, our balcony overlooks a park and he loves to bark at people and dogs who walk by the house. Ralphie who came to live with us a year ago, was a pretty quiet dog when he came here, but now he loves to sit on the balcony even more than Joey. I really think that's what these little guys were originally bred for, they may not be able to attack, but they can alert people to strangers, and I think they think they are doing a great job. I really think this thread can help you. The idea is to teach them that it's okay to bark, but sometimes you can tell them to stop. I now reward them with "good quiet" when I want them to stop barking. It really seems to be working and this way, both of us our happy, they can bark and I can say enough is enough! Then sometimes we just close the shades and curtains and this stops all barking unless they hear something. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...h-barking.html
