This probably has been discussed already, but is it worth microchipping our pups? (We did drop them off this morning for their spay/neuter and was going to have them chipped but decided not to for today).

If they do get microchipped, will we need to register them and is there a yearly cost to keep it in the database?

There isn't typically a yearly cost and I say microchip microchip microchip....it is just one more thing to always keep your baby safe.

I would never even think twice about not getting mine chipped in fact I pick up my puppy 1/14 and 1/15 she gets chipped, each chip is different and you don't have to pay but for $17.99 a year to get which to me is well worth it in my opinion.

Some companies do a yearly cost, but it includes other things rather than just the listing. I think microchipping is one of the safest procedures you can do for your dog. Millions of dogs have been returned to their owners because of having a chip and there is no question of ownership when you chip. I've heard it doesn't hurt to get the chip, but I still think it's safest to put in the chip when they are being neutered, that way there's no chance of them flinching.

I have both an iPhone and iPad that stay on me 24/7 same with my husband, well Home Again has an app where any Home Again chipped animal take goes missing near my job or work I get an alert with picture and description so I make sure we both carry treats in our trucks so we can help watch out for the missing pets.... This is an instant alert your pup runs out the door you pick up your phone make that alert and every pet lover with that app near you is alerted to help you search so in my opinion using Home Again is great in more ways than one!!

Oh wow, that sounds wonderful! The sooner you can act, the more likely your dog will be safely found.

Definitely microchip. You hear stories everyday of a dog that got lost ("he never leaves my side.." or "he never even goes outside.."). Anything can happen. Microchip and make sure they always have a collar with ID tags. Don't be the one that thinks "that will never happen to my dog." It can for sure. Arm yourself with every tool available to help find your dog if that happens.

Everything I just said are Pros to microchipping.
Cons = can't think of a one

I considering not getting Tink microchipped but went ahead with it when she was spayed. I am so glad I did. The vet charged $40 to do the chipping and the HomeAgain service charges $17.99/year. Both charges are more than worth it, in my opinion. Tink has a fenced doggy area at home and she is always with me when out of the home but things happen that we can't foresee. Also, Yorkies are one of the top dogs that are stolen.

A microchip isn't a guarantee but it's just one more step I can take to help insure against losing her.

I don't know of any microchip that has a yearly fee. Home Again has a 17.00 fee but that is for EXTRA services. Once you pay the initial fee for the chip, your pup is registered for life!

You do not have to pay that yearly fee to have your pup in their system. That fee is for extra services...NOT for the chip to be in the database. It is there with the initial fee...for life!
