| I think it could help in some cases, but I don't bother giving it as a supplement.

| I use it with several of my seniors. I started giving it after they started having motion issues, secondary to arthritis and I have one little girl that is a breeder mess....and her hips and knees are horrible...she had reached the point where she actually no longer hardly walk....and surgery was not an option, as her little hips and legs were bowed so badly, the specialist did not think he was going to be able to give her any quality life....I put her on Cosequin and Healthy Extension Little Bites, and Crickette not only walks, she even ventures a run when motivated! I think the stuff is a miracle drug and recommend it to everyone. I have not given it as an everyday supplement, but it certainly works amazingly well after the problem manefests itself! And I have to say, people on here introduced me to Dasuquin....I think it contains a pain killer because another of my seniors has had a spine issue (spurs) all his life and as he has gotten older, it has really started causing him pain....while the Cosequin was helping him to walk around, if you picked him up, sometimes he would holler out in pain....the Dasuquin has eliminated that! If I had put these two on these drugs from the beginning, as a daily supplement, they may not be so bad now....although they are from a BYB and have terrible soundness issues...They are just my precious pets... | Thank you so much for the information. My little guy is only a year, but I have noticed that sometimes (not all the time by any means) when he jumps off the couch he will hold his little foot up in the back like he has sprained it or something. It does not last for long at all (maybe 5 to 10 minutes), but I thought the cosequin would help and ward off any future damage. |

If you are already having an issue like this with him, and you can not keep him from jumping down from heights, I personally would start it, as it does help joint health....you may already have an issue with LP or hip issues....start nipping it in the bud....stop jumping from heights (off beds, chairs, couches, etc) and start with joint supplementation with the Cosequin....I have my two little "afflicted" seniors also on Healthy Extension Vet Choice Holistic Little Bites....they LOVE this dog food and is specifically geared towards joint health....they will send you a small sample bag before you order. I give this dog food and Cosequin all the credit in getting my little Crickette up and walking again!!!)

| Since he is only a year old maybe consider having his knees checked for Luxating Petella? It is a deformity that is common in Yorkies and sometimes requires surgical intervention. It would be best to really know what you are dealing with before starting any treatment. Also some dogs do have allergies to these supplements. My senior Shih Tzu nearly died from the same type of supplement. It is an uncommon reaction but still I would advise caution. It would be really uncommon to have joint degeneration in a year old dog. |

| Columbo has been on Dasuquin for 5 years every day since he was 4. He was having arthritis issues in his neck. Dasuquin is a miracle worker. it sounds like your pup may be starting some LP issues, so getting him on a supplement can help. |

| Because of posts on here (thank you yorkiemom1!) I tried Ziva on the cosequin-Amazing! She has LuxPat in both knees- worse in right and would hold it up often, she was gaining weight because we really cut back on the long walks. She has been on it for about 2-3 months and she has even started to run after Abby a bit! I started on another brand, with Cherry juice, she really threw that up often, the cosequin little bone shaped tablets (maintenance of 1/3 per day) seem to work great. |

| Thank you all for the great information! I need to take Freddie in anyways and I will have the vet check him over to make sure its ok to start the supplement...and to check for the LP...I sure hope and pray its not that! Like I said, its only happened a couple of times, he could've just landed wrong. And like so many of our little fur babies, he loves to jump off of things, and usually is so fast I can't stop him. I certainly do not want to give him anything that will harm him in anyway....I just love my little guy with all my heart and want to keep him healthly. |

If your vet feels a supplement would be useful you will have a recent weight to be able to calculate an accurate dosage for him.
