Yorkie Talker | first time dog owner Hi everyone! In August, my husband and I had gotten our first set of 8 week-old Yorkies and they're both brother/sister from the same litter. They're names are Yager (boy) and Peanut. I've grown up not having pets and not knowing what I was getting ourselves into, yet they have been great so far, minus the potty training which is still in the works. I do have a concern though, in the beginning, I think when they were about 10-12 weeks, Yager was eating his poop but it stopped eating it after a few wks. But recently, he's back to eating his poop. Is this a concern or is it a phase he is in? Also, at first, I thought he was just eating his when he's done doing the deed, but I saw earlier he would also pick up Peanut's nuggets as well if we don't pick it up quick enough. Thoughts? Thank you! |

| hi , welcome to yorkie talk and congrats on your new babies.. although gross poo eating is a normal occurance.. some have had good results giving a small piece of pineapple with each meal. it supposed to give the poo an unappetizing taste, you think it would be anyway right |

| hehe..yeah, you'd think the taste would stand on it's own merrit lol It is definitely normal, though so don't worry too much. I think they see their moms doing it to clean up after them when they are babies. Although, it might also be a territorial thing due to him being a boy..?

YT Addict | Welcome to YT! I'm pretty new also. Congratulations on your new family members! I also brought home two 12 week old yorkie pups the beginning of November and they are brother and sister from the same litter. Isn't it great?!?! I was having the same issue with Maggie eating her brother Bogey's poop but she seems to have stopped doing it. Just curious how you are housebreaking them. I'm using an x-pen right now and pee pads but in the spring I'd like start training them to potty outside. I just ordered a recommended book from other YTer's "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days".

Congratulations on your new babies! I love their names. I gotta say, I'm glad we got 2, they have someone to play with especially when we're at work. We're coming up to 6 months and we haven't house broken them yet We're trying a few methods of crate training and pee pads. In the beginning we were just crate training where we'll probably keep them in the crate for about 1-2 hours and "taxi" them outside to potty. If they don't do anything, we'll bring them back in and crate them for 15 minutes before taking them back out. It varied on times if it would work without accidents. We introduced the pee pads about 2 months ago as back up for when they aren't in the crate and roaming around. They do prefer to go outside, however, at times they would use it for one of the needs but not the other. For example, Peanut would poop on the pad but would rarely pee on it, she'd rather pee on her dog bed or outside. Yager on the other hand would run to the pad to pee and poop on the floor. Hope this helps. I'm hoping they will be housebroken sooner than later, but it seems like each puppies take longer than some.

We've been doing both the crate training and pee pads. Unfortunately, for us, they're coming up to 6 months and they're not housebroken yet. In the beginning, we just did the crate training and took them outside to a designated play pen for them to go potty in. We would take them out about every 1-2 hours, if they didn't do anything, we would bring them back into the crate for 15 minutes and take them back out. We did let them run around the whole back yard, but it got to the point where they ran so fast and we couldn't keep up with where they pooped and didn't want them going into the neighbors yard. We thought it'd be easier get the play pen that can also be used for kids. About 2 months ago, we introduced the pee pads - with the pee pad holder- as our back up for when we let them roam longer in the kitchen. We keep one next to the sliding door where we take them out, and another pad not to far. They were 50/50 with the pads, Yager would run to the pad to pee but would poop on the floor. Peanut originally pee on the pad when she needed to go when we're not outside, but now she would poop on the pad but would pee elsewhere or next to the pad. We're hoping it clicks for them sooner than later, but I guess it's all about patience. Hope this helps. I ran into a Yorkie mom back in September who also pee pad trained their puppy and said she was able to get her trained within 2 weeks.
