| new yorkie mom as of 2 hours ago Hi all! So my husband brought home a little yorkie puppy tonight We have a chihuahua as well so I am familiar with puppies and how to care for them as well as hypoglycemia risks. I plan on searching the forums thoroughly, but for now, can anyone offer any kind of advice that is specific to this breed? He's male, 12 weeks today, and full of energy!!! I don't remember my chi having this much energy lol! He's very very light in weight. I live in Japan so the translation was rough, but they are putting him at 2-4kg (4-6lbs) full grown. What was your pups weight at 12 weeks? Also, his little weiner is wet always. For lack of better words, is he leaking? He has peed already but his little weiner is still wet, even before he peed..Thanks guys for all the help. |

| Welcome and congrats on your new puppy! I can't help with the weiner issue, as I have two girls, but there are lots of boy owners here that will probably know. Pictures, please?

| Puppies do pee a lot. Do you use puppy pads for his potty? I would check the color of the urine and make sure he is hydrated enough. Urine should be almost clear if he is drinking enough. Don't know why he would be wet all the time unless he was laying in a wet area? Most terriers do seem to have almost boundless energy. If he was kept caged a lot before you got him he may also be enjoying the ability to run around for a change. Giving him lots of exercise will help run off some of the energy so he will sleep better. New pups should be checked out by a good reputable vet as soon as possible. It is about impossible to estimate the proper weight for your little guy without knowing his frame and muscle mass. That is something your vet should be able to tell you. A puppy that will mature at 4 to 7 pounds is usually quite small at that age but should not be really thin. Congratulations on your new pet. You can expect him to be full of energy and very smart but a bit stubborn. Terriers can be a real challenge to train if you are not accustomed to their tenacious personality. They are very sensitive and don't respond well to typical training practices. Positive reinforcement works best. Welcome to YT. There is some good reading here. The "sticky" areas of each forum have some good info as does the library. |

| Hello, welcome, and congratulations! I'm a bit rubbish with all the weight business....but I do know about weiners (or winkies, as I call them !!!) I must admit - Harry has never had a 'leaky one'....but then again I always dry his feet and his winkie when he comes in from the garden....and I also wipe his bottom, just in case... Enjoy every moment of your new little one! Sally + Harry x |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk and congrats on your new pup! I have a girl so not very good with the boy stuff but could the hair just be wet from him going potty? He maybe sneaking little potty breaks every where. When we first go Callie is was so hard to tell if she was squatting in the grass or sitting. Callie's down there hair will stay wet for a little bit after she pees.

I agree on the wet boy part - perhaps the puppy is just peeing a lot and the hair on his boy part doesn't have a chance to dry between pee pees? | |

| Hi and welcome to YT. We have a 2 1/2 year old yorkie as well as a 10 week old chihuahua Our Yorkie Zach weighed about 3 lbs when he was 12 weeks old. He now weighs 10 lbs. As far as his wee is concerned Zach's is on the damp side unless we wipe it down. Sometimes even our chi's wee is a little damp because he always peeing I am almost sure your yorkie is not leaking. |

| Congrats on your new baby, I'm sure he will be SO much fun! The "winkie" talk almost made me spit out my morning coffee - ah ha ha ha haaaaaaaaa. P-Nut's is often wet and I always use wipes after he comes back in - on his feet and his "sanitary areas" as my groomer calls the winkie and tushie. I think the dampness is just a boy thing due to the hair in the area. I remember wondering about it when I first got him. To take it a little further, right now, his aim is terrible because of a recent leg surgery and he keeps peeing all over his front leg. I practically have to bathe him after he goes pee now. |
