| Didnt think she would ever go on a walk..... Reagan is 13 weeks old now....might be 14 actually.....and I didn't think she would ever take a walk. As soon as we ventured a step or two off the property line in the neighborhood...she put the front brakes on. An idea....what if I carried her down the street then took a walk. Well, now she is a walking machine. 15 min or so walks 3 times a day for last 3 days or so. She seems to love it and her wild/crazy behavior at home has subsided quite a bit. Cesar says you need to give dogs plenty of exercise to give the dog an outlet for its energy. Seems to work. Then I read that walks should be avoided until ALL shots are done. (Reagan has one more round in 3 weeks.) Am I walking her too far for a puppy? Should Innot be walking her at all yet? She really does seem to take to it. She doesn't put the brakes on at all...except when I changed the route once. I think she thought I was going the wrong way. She already knows our house in the neighborhood! |

| I would not walk her outside of your property until about 2 weeks after she has had her last set of puppy shots.

| It is much safer to wait until all her shots are completed. Maybe walk her around the yard instead. I do agree that exercise is very important in order to have a happy healthy dog that is not destructive or bothersome. These dogs may be small but they have high energy levels and need their owner to help them to direct that energy. When Gracie was a puppy I taught her how to play fetch indoors. It works well to help burn off energy. The walk is necessary but until the shots are completed it is best to keep your pup inside or in your yard. |

| I wouldn't personally worry about it. Unless parvo is relevant around your area, etc. And I wouldn't do any dog parks or pet stores, but a simple walk around the neighborhood shouldn't hurt much. I never have kept my dog inside or only on my property until all shots are completed -- he didn't even have his rabies vaccine until like 6 months old, oops! lol... but yeah, short walks around neighborhood should be ok! I would just ask your vet and see what his opinion is, and if he's heard of any disease going around.
