| Joel got into something Everynight night I give joel his kong with something in it while we watch some t.v. So he was being nice and quite like always when he has his kong, but then I noticed he was a little to quite so when I went to go find him I saw the kong on the floor and no puppy and I instantly thought "uh oh" Then I found him under the bed with a rib bone! I got it away from him and he knawed off both the ends. Now i'm worried, but the good thing is when he eats stuff he's not good at getting chunks off so I think when he ate it he was just getting a tiny bit off at at time |

| Sorry Joel was a sneaky guy. It is making me really scared watching these little ones and seeing all the things they can do to get into mischief. Hope he is okay. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Dexter knocked over the trash once and he and Clyde found a BUNCH of rib bones. They actually ate them too o.O They ate more than I am sure your little guy did and they were completely fine! So it doesn't sound like you have to much to be worried about =) |

| Oh no! Okay... if you're asking advice... if he's acting normal, go first thing in the morning to your vet and ask for abdominal xrays to verify that he ate the bones and to determine where they are in his system. (If he's not acting right, go now.) Hopefully your vet will want to repeat the xrays every few days to track the progress of the bones through his system, to make sure things are moving right along. Also watch for bloody poops, or abdominal swelling. His gum color should be pink, if it's pale, go straight to the vet now. Lack of appetite, and vomiting would also be a concern. Were those bones from today?

| Thanks He's been acting normal, and he's sleeping now. I could call the vets in the morning to be safe. |

| While raw bones can be quite good for a dog cooked bones tend to splinter when they bite them and the sharp edges can cause cuts in the intestines. If you think he swallowed parts of the bone it would be a good idea to have him checked out. Small dogs have tiny intestines and they tend to have more problems with such things The little Yorkie, Lilo Kahlua Bear, who you may have seen here on YT on occasion, recently passed away. When admitted to the hospital she was very anemic. At first they thought she was anemic because of possible bone chips caught in the intestines. Sadly, she also had a serious protein deficiency. So very, very sad. You can't be too careful with these furry family members. |

An xray can show the size of any pieces of bone, and the vet will know if they are more likely to pass through without a problem. If a large piece is seen and determined not likely to safely pass, you then have the option of having the bone(s) surgically removed, before the dog becomes too ill from any damage the bone will likely cause. Most vets will suggest to 'wait and see', which I have no problem with in larger dogs. Smaller dogs have smaller intestines, with tinier loops, and it's easier for even small objects to get stuck. A simple xray can give you a much better idea of what's going on and what to expect, or peace of mind if nothing shows up (then still watch for symptoms). Also very closely monitor how much he's eating, so you know if he's backing off from his food or not.

| I would absolutely be at the vet 1st thing in the A.M. Don't wait till there are symptoms as by the time symptoms show, it's often too late. Cooked bones can & often are deadly. Please, this is nothing to mess around with. |
