Senior Yorkie Talker | Do they go through a messy phase when growing out??? After having my second child and adding a puppy to the household, I had Bentley cut into a puppy cut. Now both my children are toddlers and I'm not as sleep deprived and really want to grow him to the floor. We never made it that far but it was pretty long. It's been about two, maybe even three months now since he saw a groomer. I have been bathing him and trimming his belly and feet. It IS growing but I'm just wondering if all yorkies go through a shaggy phase when they are growing long? I just feel so bad. I feel like it looks as though I don't take care of him. It's driving me crazy. The hair they used to shave on his nose is growing but it seems like it's stopped and is taking forever. He always has eye boogies bc of it. Is it normal for them to go through a messy phase like this? I know I do when I'm growing my hair out. Is it the same thing for yorkies? Is there anyway to minimize this or is there something else I should be doing? I feel like everyone is looking at me like I'm a terrible yorkie mama when we go out. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Yes they can get pretty shaggy looking when growing out their coat. If you want Bentley to have the long coat you have to get through the growing out phase. Try and resist the urge to cut him when he gets shaggy looking, it's the only way to grow it out. Good luck.

| I am growing out Ahi's hair too but I still take her too the groomers to have her trimmed. It is still getting longer but I can't stand when it looks all uneven. lol So she still looks beautiful. Do they use a straightener on their hair? It looks like it to me sometimes. lol

| Yes, the shaggy phase is normal...mine have never gotten out of it. I alway cave and recut...then attempt growing it out again...vicious pattern! Best sucesses were in ensuring use of a mustach combs I use Madan, and more conditioning, we use wrn- as shampoo conditioner & a leave in.

| I'm growing Joel out also, but either way he is just naturaly messy, lol I could bathe him and brush him and 15 minutes later he is messy. I think it's because his hair isn't the smooth or shiny kind, I don't know how to explain it but it sticks to your fingers and is nappy, lol |

| I love Max and Teddy's looks. I really like the puppy cut and will get that for Amy the first time she is groomed. She is a Morkie though but is my baby. |

| Kyra didnt seem to go through that stage so much but Laddy was a mess and since we are starting over again because of allergies he is again lol. The face furnishings seem to take the longest.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks everyone! Glad we rnt alone. It's so hard not to cave. He's so cute when he comes home from the groomer. I bathed him yesterday and he looks better. The nose hairs drive me crazy. I was telling DH I don't think I'll ever be able to take him to a groomer again bc I'd freak if they cut off his nose hairs after so much work not cutting them. Who knew doing nothing would be so hard! |

| Are you trying to grow a topknot? If you want those face hairs to grow out it does take a long time. I was growing Gracie's out when she was a puppy and a groomer chopped it up despite my request not to touch it. Yes, it is very frustrating. Some people use doggie gels on the face but Gracie hated that and would rub her face into the rug after I used it on her. She actually irritated one of her eyes by doing that. I did trim the little section in the inner corner of her eyes so the poor dear could see. She is good about letting me do those things. |
